Rivka
Beast Academy is on sale NOW at http://www.beastacademy.com ! Can we have a roll call of people who are going to start using the curriculum right away? Since we will be among the very first users, I thought it would be nice to have a central thread to share our excitement and discuss planning, approaches, and potential problems. :seeya: I'm Rivka, and my daughter Alex will be starting BA the minute we can rip it from the mail carrier's hands. She'll be 7 next month. Until now, we've been doing MEP along with occasional bits and pieces of Miquon and Singapore CWP. Who else is planning to be guinea pigs with us? shann
We will be starting right away as well but moving through the books very slowly. I bought A and B but don't expect to dip into B until maybe Jan? Dd is 8 and we afterschool with Singapore. She is not accelerated in math but she picks up new info very quickly and loved the comic book characters of BA. I won't be pushing the workbook and probably won't even crack into it until school lets out. But we will be reading the textbook together for fun. *Jessica*
We will be! I'm going to give Nik, age 8, the assessment this week to be sure he's ready.
Jen500
It's 3rd grade, right? (I've been so negligent in keeping up with this beast stuff) eta--ok, checked it myself! so tempting.
....
Darn its! You talked me into it. I guess I'll buy it, too!! :D It's reasonably-priced, BTW.
Beth in SW WA
I ordered -- but my shipment is on the sssssslllllllloooooooowwwww train. Dd7 will start after spring break. I'll be :bigear: as you guys start right away. :)
fraidycat
My DD is 9 and we will be early adopters, a.k.a Guinea Pigs :D. I paid for priority shipping to get those goodies into our hands ASAP. We're backing up in math because I pulled DD out of 4th grade halfway through the year and we've been stumbling around trying to find the right fit to fill gaps. I suspect we'll move a fairly quick pace, then use MM (after the HSBC sale is done and we get that) until the rest of the books come out. boscopup
I'm still debating! On the one hand, if I ordered it and the Prealgebra at the same time, I'd get free shipping, and I was planning to go ahead and buy the prealgebra this year to work through myself (we'll finish up Singapore 5B before Christmas, most likely). On the other hand, DS is really beyond BA 3A/3B, so probably doesn't need to do the workbook. But then on the third hand (because I'm a mutant), DS2 can use the guide/workbook combo in 2-3 years, so it's not like the workbook would go to waste (and we could work the challenge problems on separate paper for DS1 just for fun). My DH really shouldn't go out of town on business trips. I end up spending all his money on curriculum. :D
nov05mama
I originally didn't PLAN to start it until July (since I figured it would be so expensive that I would have to save pennies until we started the 'new year'...LOL) but now...I don't think we can avoid starting it as soon as it arrives
FairProspects
I'm going to take a couple of weeks to speed through the rest of 2B, and then we'll join you. :)
matilda
DS will start using it as soon as it shows up, so we would like to join the party.
LMD
I'm going to take a couple of weeks to speed through the rest of 2B, and then we'll join you. :) Yes, this. I anticipate we'll probably start around July - DD's 7th b'day. :D I'm going to take the time to familiarise myself with it (and the AoPS mindset) first... BatmansWife
I'm reeeeeeaaaaaalllly tempted. My dd is loving LOF for a fun read aloud together....maybe she'd adore this too. For 3rd grade in the fall we plan on TT3, but I was considering using MIF textbook and workbook along with it. Buuuuuuuttttt.....maybe I should try Beast along with TT instead of MIF. I mean....we will be at the perfect grade for it. Help me decide ladies! Should I join the Beast bandwagon??? :willy_nilly: ETA: Didn't mean to slight you Bill. :o Edited March 13, 2012 by ~AprilMay~
Deniseibase
Just ordered it! Using it as a fun supplement for my AoPS Pre-A kid, she has loved reading the sample comics so far, and she's even learned a little bit from some of the more esoteric and super-challenge problems. My K student isn't quite there yet, but he still likes us to read the comics to him! :)
NotAVampireLvr
I've ordered 3a... I won't know if we're using them until we get them (unsure about level) but we're very excited!
Spy Car
Who else is planning to be guinea pigs with us? My name is Bill. My son William (7.5) and I will start the moment the books arrive at our doorstep. We have used an eclectic mix of math materials including Miquon, MEP and Primary Mathematics (Singapore) which has been our "spine" for the past couple of years. We are almost done with the core of 3A/3B. We previously used the Beast Academy Sample Chapter and loved it! This has been a long day coming. We were order #7. I can't wait!!! courtney.byrum
I'm tempted but not sure yet. DS 7.5 would love it but I wonder if it would be worth it for him as he is in k12 5th grade math. DD 6.5 is finishing up k12 2nd grade math so maybe it would be worth it for her and DS can just have fun with it?
SunnyDays
Okay, I'm really thinking about this. DS is 9 and has really finished up 3rd grade math, working on 4th grade work. (We're still waffling between Singapore and CLE, we've been dabbling in both.) So is he beyond this? I'm not on Facebook so I didn't see as much of the samples as many of you. Would it be worth getting just the guide for him to read through, as a fun supplement? I mean, it's a comic book, what's not to like about that?!? :)
Roadrunner
We will be using it as soon as it arrives. I was order #4  My son just turned 7 and he has finished through SM 3A. My 5 year old is also salivating, but alas, he will have to wait for one more year.
Amber in AUS
I so wishing I could be joining this thread. My DD would LOVe these books but shipping to Australia is $54, as much as the books themselves! I just can't do it.

I have a similar situation over here - two third-graders who are a couple grades above that in math, and a K-er who is suddenly starting to take off in math. And I don't homeschool any of them. (I didn't even last ten minutes since my last post.) I did just get the guides, and not the practice books right now. 4ofus
We're in! 3a & 3b on the way! Standard shipping here & I'm pretty sure we won't start immediately. We'll finish what we're currently doing first.
Meriwether
I'm not sure when we will start. If we move soon, we'll start after we are settled. ErinE
My ds9 finished Singapore Level 3 a few months ago and moved onto Level 4. We supplement with Zaccarro, Singapore CWP, and Miquon. He was really excited about the samples posted on Facebook so we'll see once the books get here if he's willing to add Beast Academy to the rotation. Chrysalis Academy
A pox on all your houses!!! We are really happy with MM 4. But I am hoping to use AoPs Pre algebra, and I am a firm believer in the AoPs style problem solving method. I was going to try to get past Beast with dd9 with my fingers in my ears singing "la la la" while you all raved about it, and plan on using all of Beast with dd5 when she is ready . . . but now I'm seeing some of you with 4th graders or more who are planning to use this. Seriously, I want to know if it will add meaningfully to what we are getting from MM? Will someone let us know when the package arrives and you rip into it? Or what you think basesd on the S&S and samples? A pox on all your houses!! ;):D:D:D
deerforest
DD is 7.5, loves graphic novels and funny creatures. I've just recently realized that I've been working her totally below level and she's been bored out of her mind with math. :tongue_smilie: So, we are both very excited for BA! MomofAJ
I ordered both 3A and 3B with priority shipping:001_smile: We are within 10 lessons of being finished with TT3 and are year round homeschoolers so we will start this along with TT4. Tress
International shipping seemednto be $27 to me. Did I miss something? I wonder if a few Aussies could combine shipping? It's $54 for me, to Europe. And then there will probably be customs taxes. Why can't they sell through Amazon?? Cheap(er) shipping, no taxes.... This is painful. Chrysalis Academy
I can't believe I am saying this but . . . we are in! Shannon is 9, in 4th grade, and is halfway through MM 4. She's been hsing since November. I originally thought that BA would be all review for her, but I realize when I looked more closely that 3A is a lot of geometry, and her geometry background from ps stinks, and we haven't done Geometry in MM yet . . . so I totally talked myself into it!! I want to use AoPs prealgebra with her when the time comes, and I've been wanting to order it for myself for awhile now anyway, so I totally justified it when somebody said you can order them together and get free shipping. I am a sucker for free shpping. And I can use it with dd 5 when she's ready . . . . And now I am just TALKING CRAZY trying to convince myself that adding another math could possibly be a good idea!!!! This will be fun, though! :D

melmichigan
When the samples came up on FB I mentioned to my DS6 that he could start BA when he finished all the books we have. :sneaky2: kid, he's almost there. He's the only one I've ever seen kiss a new math book or demand math on a Sunday, so I imagine we will be starting right away. He wants to know when the tracking label comes up. DD9's are up in the air. It depends on how hooked they are on the cartoon format. Order #8 Edited March 13, 2012 by melmichigan
mamajag
We are in for at least 3a as soon as DH gets paid. I don't know how soon we'll start, but I plan on using it alongside our MUS. MUS is working, but I really want to use AoPS and want to make sure she's prepped. Luckily, MUS is really cheap, so I can afford $200 a year if we get hooked on BA. zoo_keeper
We're in, too, but we won't be starting right away (so no priority shipping for us). ODD is still in SM 2B. Plus, I really want to keep SM as our spine (along with its IP and CWP), so I'll need some time to figure out how to integrate it along with our LoF and their practice books! I think I'm going to have to give up the dream of working MEP in the mix, too....

Rosie
We'll be guinea pigs!!! I just ordered all 4 BA books along with Pre-Algebra (for me!) and we will begin as soon as they get here. DD8 still needs to finish Miquon purple and the mental math pages in Singapore 2B before I let her start BA. I have a feeling they will be done in the next couple days! Hehe! She asked if she could go do math tonight and it was already 30 minutes after bed time so I had to tell her no, but I'd bet anything that she'll be up at 7am doing math while I'm still in bed sleeping tomorrow morning! I did the assessment with her and she had a hard time with the odd/even basketball problem, but everything else she got right. It looks like it should be a great fit! I'm so excited about this! And I feel like such a dork!!!
Dmmetler
I ordered it. DD is towards the end of SM 4B (plus has done the measurement, decimals, and fractions sections in SM5) so I expect BA 3A/3B to be her summer fun/review math. She's enjoyed the samples so much I couldn't resist. We were #3-but will probably be out of town when it arrives. It was half tempting to tell them to express ship them to DH's SIL's in FL, where we'll be next week! Aurelia
Drat you all! This would be perfect for DD, but I can't order it until next month, and we already are nearly halfway through MM3A, and I don't NEED another math program.
tothenthdegree
Guinea pigs here as well! DD8 just saw the sample pages and thought they were so cool! She's doing Abeka in private school and got all the problems right in 3a but has no idea about geometry, so I think BA will be great for her to do during the summer before I begin HSing her. Very exciting!

LucyStoner
I ordered both. 3A looks like a review for him but 3b has some good topics for him. He is 8 and we are using this as a supplement to Singapore for now. We would be open to switching to it completely if it comes out fast enough. 3A is a fair bit of review and 3B has some things that are review for him as well. I am most interested in 3C and 3D and the grades 4 and 5 when they come out. We were number 88, I ordered after being on site with a client all day. :001_smile: Edited March 13, 2012 by kijipt
