National Italian Exam

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had their dc take the National Italian Exam? If so, then where did your dc take it? I went to the website that offers the NIE, but the only info about taking the exam was info on sending the test to the principal of the school. There was a statement that no Italian teachers could administer the test.

It seems that it is so much easier to acquire the National Latin Exam than any of the other languages (checked out National Spanish Exam a few years ago).

I would love to have my dds Italian study verified, but there may be no hope unless she takes the AP test (which there have been threats to eliminate the Italian test). Who knows if the Italian AP test will still be around when my dc will be a junior or senior.

There are also no CLEP tests for Italian.

What a bummer! Not everyone is interested in Spanish, German, or French!

You might take a look at this: www.languagetesting.com. I just heard about this through the book Language Logic. I just briefly browsed the site, and my guess is you might need to call them to understand it (heavy on acronyms and jargon). However, it appears they can assess for college credit it an awful lot of languages. Then you'd probably need to talk to admissions officers to see if they accept the credit. Still, less work than sitting through a semester of classes in something you already know (and paying for it!)

Here are a couple standardized, recognized language tests in many languages

(this one is an oral exam via telephone)

The NYU exam will give you NYU credits...

Do you know if you have to take the NYU exam at NYU or can it be proctored out of state?

Thanks,

Jan P.

There is a SAT subject test for Italian. AP for Italian is being discontinued--last scheduled test date 2009.

Thanks for this information. I don't know why I didn't think of looking up a SAT subject test for Italian! :blushing:

College credit would be the icing on the cake if my dd tested well on a nationally recognized test. I'm mostly interested in validation, but hey, I'll take college credit too!:001_smile:

Blessings,
