birthday party woes!

Recommended Posts

So we normally do birthday parties in our home, very low key with homemade cake, snacks, punch, and fun decorations with a theme. Do to a huge remodeling project going on we can't do that this year for my daughter's 2 year old party. So I rented a pavillion at a park. I sent out invites. Then my dh decided he was worried about the weather and asked that I move it to a local indoor playground place. More expensive by far, but i get his point. and at the time not many people had RSVP'd, so I did it and sent out the change to everyone invited. Well, everyone loves this place and now I have many more yes replies than before. :001_huh:

So, not only are we going to be paying the base rate for this place, but if everyone who RSVP'd shows we will be paying another $66 for extra guests over the minimum. And I still have a family with 3 kids that "isn't sure" due to nap time. I'm pretty sure they won't come, and they were sick over the weekend, and are not better yet. I would love to have them come, but another $33 will be rough! I can't believe I am spending this much money on a 2 year old's party!

That said I am blessed to have such wonderful friends and for my daughter to have such a full party.

Yeah, those indoor play places can be pretty expensive! The kids love them, but they add up fast! Especially since so many of them will be X number of dollars for X number of kids and then they add on per kid for additional kids.

That's why lately I've been trying to find ways to combine birthday parties for my kids, even though one's a boy and one's a girl and even though they're five years apart...I've just been finding things that would be fun for both of them and inviting family and friends from our homeschool group that we're especially close to who have kids both their ages. So far it's worked out! Or we'll try to find a place that has a base rate no matter how many people you invite.

At least next year your remodeling will be done and you can go back to a more low key thing if you want! :D

Enjoy your party!

I feel for you.

Your story is why we stopped having those types of parties, to be honest. It seemed as if people only came to the 'big cost events' (and brought sibs who we ended up paying for because who wants to exclude a kid from the fun?) and not to the low-key, lower cost parties. Because of that, we started just having two or three friends over for a 'party'.

I understand why you had to change from your 'normal', low key events. I would just try to have fun and resume your low key events when your remodeling is finished.

I hope all goes well. :grouphug:
