1GirlTwinBoys
Any input at all would be really appreciated. This is his first writing assignment to where he has to go off on his own and try to remember what was just read to him. I read a chapter from Squanto, and told him to go write down what he remembered from the story. He's 7 years old (8 in May). This was done without any spelling or punctuation help from me, so there are some errors. Any advice on how to direct him going forward? thescrappyhomeschooler
That is a bit better than my 2nd grader typically does on similar assignments. At least your son remembers to capitalize the beginning of a sentence and to use punctuation.
herkey6
This is better than my 3rd grader! Her spelling is pretty rough. We are just transitioning from her dictating to me, then copying what I've written. So, I'd say he did pretty well!
mytwomonkeys
Really excellent! The only thing I might have discussed is using the pronoun "he". That would have saved some handwriting :) really great job!
thyme4tea
very good, better than my 3rd grader!
misidawnrn
I think it is very good, but I am not an expert. I do have a 2nd grader though and it is comparable to her work.

In the Rain
It looks similar to what my 2nd grade dd would do. I would discuss pronoun use for better flow. I'd also remind him how to start a new sentence immediately after the previous one, instead of on a brand new line. My dd does the same thing. Pretty in Pink
I usually have my children go back and correct their spelling and capitalization errors, as well as any incorrectly formed letters. I might mention that it would be okay to use the pronoun he in place of Squanto, and that it's not necessary to begin each sentence on a new line. I think the work is very good for a 7 year old! :001_smile:

bnrmom
Well, if my 2nd grader would ever write something like that, I could see how it compared, but I'd have to tie him down and threaten no video games until he was 18 to get him to do it. 1GirlTwinBoys
It makes me feel good knowing he's doing good. I've been a little upset lately wondering about how we're doing with homeschooling. :001_huh:
