Do you have a regular stylist/beautician/hair dresser?

Recommended Posts

I have one person who does it all. I LOVE her. She will try new things and she's a perfectionist, so she spends 1 1/2 hours with me for a simple cut and style. She really knows "me" - she understands that I don't want something too modern, but I want a "fresh" look. KWIM? I pay $50 for a wash, cut, style. I do highlights every 5 months or so and will pay $120 (that includes the cut/style thing too). It's expensive, but I'm in love with her!! LOL

That said, I tried going to my mom's hair stylist a few times because she charges $10 for a cut. She's terrible!!! So, I'm afraid to try anyone new.

A friend of mine has been doing my hair for almost 20 years now. I was her "guinnea pig" while she was still in beauty school. Other than a few years when she moved away she has done my hair.

She started out charging $5 for a wash, cut, style and now is up to a whopping $6 each. I pay her a little more but she doesn't like to take it. She cuts hair out of her house so she can be home with her kids.

Yes, I have Kat, who is so patient with me. She tells me I need to keep my hair trimmed by coming every 8 weeks or so and then forgives me when I wait 6 months. She has a round face like mine, so she knows that round faces cannot wear all the same hairstyles that skinny faces can wear. She is great at helping me figure out what I want. And if I say "Make me sassy, Kat." she knows just what I want.

I see nobody but Kat! Of course my hair looks fabulous until the next day and then I stand in the bathroom and try to duplicate everything the way Kat patiently showed me, but I never can do it.:(

I've gone to the same person for years. She is the owner of the shop, has great ideas, and is very good with highlights and such. Best of all, for several years she and I went to the same church. That way she got to *see* how much (or little:rolleyes:) effort I put into fixing and fluffing my hair. She knows that a great cut and easy care hair is what my lifestyle needs.

She is worth every penny I pay her...and lots more!

Just curious how many of you have a regular person that does your hair. I do, I finally found her after years of looking. I pay $18.00 (not including tip) for a hair cut/style. I pay $53 for highlights.

So do you have a "person" how much do you pay for services.

When we moved here, and I realized I do not, in fact, have "good Southern hair", I wanted to try to find somebody who could help me out. I found one lady who did a nice job. It was a little pricey for someone who doesn't usually spend money on this type of thing, but DH and I had talked it over and agreed we could budget for it. $80 for highlights and a cut, plus tip. No style. No nothing else.

Then, the last time I went in, it was $120 for highlighting the roots! No wash. No style. Just root touchup. That still didn't include the tip. Of course, I wasn't informed of the price hike until I was at the register, after the fact. There were no signs posted, nobody mentioned it. I was mortified b/c I hadn't budgeted for that, and it was rather embarrassing. So, I paid it, left her tip, and slipped out quickly. And then I had to go juggle things a little to cover the difference.

After that, I decided to put a stylist on my list of things that we aren't in the market for, anymore. I know it's a luxury, and that she's got to make a living, too. And so I had to make that call, for us, and our budget. I miss having nice hair, though (we've tried it ourselves, and it hasn't gone so well b/c whatever I bought didn't mesh well w/ whatever she'd used.) And now, *sigh* I have four-to-five inch roots, and I've got some really tacky Georgia Satellite hair going (remember that band?) But that's okay. Long live the baseball cap!!! Live and learn, right? ;)

I had long (down to my lower back) straight hair. It was easy to cut--take off the dead ends, put in some long layers, a bit of tapering around the face and I was good to go. Anyone at Great Clips or Supercuts could do this cut.

About the time I had my 4th son, I decided to cut my hair to a bit above shoulder length.

I got it cut, and my hair was wavy with a bit of curl! It had been stick straight my entire life, but sometime over my pregnancies my texture changed.

I've had a few cuts I've liked, but have never been to the same person twice. In addition, I lost a lot of weight, and my face shape has gone from round to more of a rectangle, so the cuts that looked good when I first cut it aren't the most flattering now.

I'm mad at my hair right now, and am considering going to a stylist that a few of my friends use. He's supposed to be great at looking at your face and your hair and listening to what you want and giving a good cut. I don't know what he charges for a cut, but for a color & cut it's about $50. I've never colored my hair, and am not ready to tackle that yet.

Finally~ I have found the right stylist after looking around our new town for a few years. There were a number of misses during my search. LaDiEs...A Good Stylist is hard to find. So tip her well when you find her and make your appointments on time. They are worth their weight in gold.

My stylist owns her salon and the cost is better than in and out places or most places around here. Under $30 for a cut & style.

Sweetie, that IS the quintessential southern hair!! Well, at least small town, redneck southern hair. If you had some very long acrylic nails to go with it, that would be perfect. Do you have very long acrylic nails? No? Get some, and then it will look like you wear your hair that way on purpose.:D

Are you more southern belle, redneck, or misplaced yankee?:p

Get off the internet, Kelli, it is time for school!

"Yeah, *snort*, you blend."

Sadly, this look does go well w/ the little meth-hole we actually live in. I DO blend, here. But it's not... quite what I was looking for. Sometimes I've gotta go into town... in daylight... and then there was the day Zorak and I were out front working on the storm windows. It was hot and I told him, "Honey, whatever you do, PLEASE do not take off your shirt, because between the two of us, COPS will pull into the driveway right at that instant." Can't do the acrylics, though. Too much work still to be done, and nothing will drop me into the fetal position and make me yell like a scalded cat quite as quick as ripping off an acrylic! Yeouch!

I'm definitely not a yankee. ;) From the Southwest, where dry skin and hair is the norm, and accessories run more along the lines of Rockies jeans and turquoise jewelry. I'd never thought of my own hair as an accessory before. It's a disturbing concept for me. :D

We all go to the same person and have for years. She is very sweet and tries to do what you want. She gives a pretty good cut too. The prices were just raised in the salon so I may not be remembering correctly.

I think for a wash/cut/style it is around $23ish plus tip of course.

For a wash/highlight/cut/style around $60ish plus tip ( I think it has gone up a bit but I can't remember exactly)

They are very reasonable at this salon. I think we have a good deal going for quality of service for the price.

After years of cutting it myself, a very simple cut, I decided to find The One. I tried three people and found her. She does a great job on my very fine, straight hair. The last time I went for a cut she tried something a bit different and I love it. I pay $25 for a cut and style, not including tip. I don't color my hair, because I just don't want to go there. :)

20 years with the same lady. Dh, ds7 and I all use her. She charges dh $15, ds7 $11 and me $20 for a cut. She charges me $65 for a cut and color combo which I do every 8 weeks. Dh goes every 3 weeks. Ds7 goes whenever he starts looking shaggy. We've never tipped her...when we were young and she worked for someone else we were too dumb to realize we should. By the time I figured out we should be tipping her she had her own shop....now to start tipping her would just be.....weird. I've seen her through all sorts of her life situations....2 divorces, 2 marriages, raising two kids, building a house, becoming a grandmother, nearly losing her mind with her problem child and being so proud of her problemless child.

Dh complains because he can't get in to see her within the hour of the thought entering his mind. She stays late many many times to fit him in.....

I have very curly hair so it is difficult to find someone who understands curly hair. Everyone says they do, but they just don't. My current gal has been doing an OK job, but not great. However, she treats my hair well (doesn't try to dry comb it and rip it out of my head like the Great Clips gal.) But, the last 2 cuts haven't been that great. She charges $32 for a cut and style. However the style part usually consists of blow drying my bangs and putting me under the dryer in the winter so I don't have icicles hanging from my head.

I am not Miss Latest Styles - more of a Lands' End or Kohl's Clearance Rack gal. I think I am in the market for a new stylist, but they are SOOOO expensive here. Plus, ALL the better salons expect you to color your hair. I will not do it until my gray is more noticeable. TOOO much maintenance.

Yes I am faithful to my husband who always cuts my hair! I hate the mindless chit-chat of hairdressers and the terrible music. Anyway my husband is really getting quite good. He recently cut the hair of our two little hairdresser-phobic nieces.

She has recently moved her shop into her home. She cuts my daughters hair for free and has been able to take a buzz your hair emergency of ds. We love her and will be sad if she retires. It's really hard to find a good hair dresser even in high end salons.

He won't. I've even tried the argument, "but all your cousins do their wives' hair!" To no avail. I think he's afraid he'll slip and cut my jugular vein, or scar my forehead or something, to be honest. :-) He'll color it for me (which works great when I do an all-over color), but he just won't get near me w/ anything sharp.

Hmmm. Perhaps I should be thankful? :p

Nope. I go into the nearest no appointment walk in place with my girls and get our hair cut all at once when we are out running other errands. $12 for me, and $8 for each of my girls. We bring photos and are generally pleased with the results. I only go a couple times per year to get my haircut.

I am very dedicated to my stylist of seven years. She recently left her salon after 20 years, and I followed. She is a skilled hair cutter, but my main reason for such dedication is that she knows me! :D She knows that I do not wish to look like anyone else, nor do I want the latest thing.

Sometimes I sketch what I want, and she snips away. Occasionally I ask what everyone else is doing and then ask her to do the opposite for me. ;) Because of her skill and willingness, I gladly pay whatever she asks for a cut.

My mom cut and colored mine when we lived in CA. She does an awesome job (she is a nurse, not a stylist). Since we moved here almost six years ago I have tried several people paying anywhere from $10-$50 for a cut & style. Every single time has left me nearly in tears. I realized that ALL of the local stylists all went to the same local school (the only one) and learned the same crappy technique. It doesn't matter if they work at the $10 walk in or the $50 spa salon. Now I trim my bangs, but I am letting it grow out until my mom comes up to visit again. Dh would happily cut if he knew how and I think he would do a good job so my mom will give him a lesson. I doubt she will come up until late spring or summer. Until then I am letting it grow long. I stopped coloring and have embraced my white hairs.

I do dh's and the boy's hair. I was desparate and sore (stupid weather making my joints HURT) so I had dh take the kids to the cheap place last week. Ds6's hair is so crooked and messed up all around the ears and neck. I feel awful. I am just glad he is not old enough to notice. She cut it so short that I cannot even fix it until it grows out for a couple of weeks.

A homeschool mom who used to live in our neighborhood has been cutting our family's hair for 8 years. She now lives in a neighboring town, but she still comes over once a month to cut our hair. In one evening, everyone in the family who wants a haircut gets one. (Sometimes my older teen doesn't want a haircut.) We pay her $55 regardless of how many in the family decide to get a haircut - most of the time 3 people do, sometimes 4, sometimes 2.

It's a huge timesaver having her come to our house! And she's does a great job!
