Michelle T
I read so many rave reviews of the Sh-Mop on the boards, I got one. And I hate it! I have the cotton covers, and wow, it is a real arm-work-out to push that thing! It clings to the floor, and takes way too much elbow grease. I have laminate floors, it's not like they are rough, or should be hard to push a mop on. So, anyone else disappointed in the Sh-Mop? And now what mop should I get? Michelle T, who really doesn't like mopping:confused:
3lilreds in NC
I have similar (knock-off) version and once tried to mop with microfiber covers. It was disastrous. It took forever and I thought my arms would fall off. Then I got the correct covers, made of terry cloth, and they worked beautifully. I think you might be trying to mop with the dust mop version of the Sh-mop covers. With laminate floors it shouldn't be that hard. :)
3lilreds in NC
would you like to sell it to me????
genie
Yep, what 3lilreds said. The one that came with my mop was more like terry cloth and it is wonderful. I bought a different brand as a replacement. It is very soft (microfiber, I guess) and it is very hard to use unless it is dry. So I use that one to sweep with, and the terry one to mop with. The terry one was from a Bruce Hardwood Floor cleaning kit from Lowes.
Michelle T
but it is not the Sh-mop brand, it is a similar one I bought at Lowe's. Don't know if that could make a difference. But it is definitely hard to push the mop. I use it damp with water, and spray bit of floor cleaner on it. Am I doing it wrong? Liz CA
I think you might be trying to mop with the dust mop version of the Sh-mop covers. With laminate floors it shouldn't be that hard. :) and I never really knew the difference and tried to mop with a microfiber cover and finally realized why the instructions said to use it dry. Try a terry cloth cover - I have laminate - and it works beautifully. :D
genie
Am I doing it wrong? I'm really not sure. I know that the one that I now call microfiber, I would have called terry cloth before having the two side-by-side. The terry cloth one is very rough-feeling and the microfiber one is soft. I don't wet down the actual cover when I use it, I just spray the cleaner (I use the Bruce Hardwood Floor Cleaner that is made for my hardwood floors... my guess is that it would also work fabulously on laminate) and then "mop it up." The cover is fairly wet by the time I'm done, but it never gets so bad that it is too hard to push. I love how shiny my floors get when I use this, so I would say to keep trying to find a "rougher" cover. You will definitely feel the difference when you find the right kind. Good Luck!!:o

Michelle T I had a Sh-mop with the cotton terry cloth covers, and I too found it too difficult to push around on my floors. I wonder if the floor finish makes a difference? Ours are new floors. Anyway, I went to the company that put our floors in, and they gave me a mop with a flat microfiber cover. That one is much easier to push around than the cotton terry was. All I could use the cotton for was dust mopping.
