Guest
In Chap 47, Starting in the Middle, TMTM suggests starting a child in 5th or 6th at SWO C if just starting out, but in the Logic section, SWO E is the 5th grade book. Which one is correct? Does it really matter? We used SWO B a year or so ago. Do these books review concepts? Spelling is a VERY weak area for us all. Thanks! G5052
You can look at sample pages and table of contents on the Rainbow Resource or Christian Books websites and guage it that way. I wouldn't be wedded to exactly what the WTM book says, especially for an older child. You really don't want to drive them crazy doing a book that's too hard. That's where homeschooling is so much better -- match their abilities, not their ages.
mcconnellboys
SWO level E is the correct level for a fifth grader, but as SWB pointed out, if you haven't been using this curriculum (or much of any) with the child prior to fifth grade, it might be better to drop back a level or two in order to make sure you're covering any gaps they might have. If you say that spelling is a very weak area for your child, then I would think that level C would probably be the best level for you to start. Guest Lorna
I agree with Regena Level C would be a good place to start with an uncertain speller. Near the end of Level D Spelling Workout makes a bit of a leap into the more advanced words (perhaps one could say words used more in writing than in speech). If you look at samples you would probably get quite a good idea of the level to start. We started on Level C and it made all the difference.
