United Streaming

Recommended Posts

We have access to this service through our charter school, so it is free to us. However, now that I have utilized it, I would probably pay to continue it if for some reason I couldn't get it anymore through school.

I use it several times a week to enhance lessons already planned, as well as on the fly when the kids are squirrely-they love to watch the Jeff Corwin shows and Magic School Bus. Recently, I also discovered the Liberty Kids (PBS) series as well. Often, I will also do a search for a particular topic. Yesterday, my dd 2nd grade watched a video about fiction and non fiction, and then completed some worksheets on those topics that I had downloaded (she loves worksheets).

I hope that helps,

Nancy in CA

We use it every day, sometimes three classes a day. Often for science, history, and Spanish. And this is not just random viewing. We watch classes to enrich our curriculum.

I said to my son just the other day, "Can you imagine homeschooling without United Streaming?" Of course, we can well remember it. I used to spend an enormous amount of time managing interlibrary loan requests for appropriate enrichment materials from the library. This deal is just SWEET.

Oh, and I pay for it myself. We're on our second year (of paying), and will absolutely renew when our year is up.

we like it, I'm just beginning to utilize it more. I was going to start a thread and ask this, but I'll put it right here...

does anyone know how to make the viewing screen for united streaming bigger? We are watching on a mac, I think thru quicktime... and the little viewing screen is so small, it's hard to bunch my 4 kids around it to watch. So anyone know how to make the viewing screen bigger? It can't always be that small, can it?

anyone?

Granted, I have our macMini hooked up to our flat screen tV, so even small, it's going to be bigger ... BUT, we have it set for Quicktime as a standalone. Then, once the quicktime box opens, I grab the bottom right corner and drag it until it's significantly bigger. You lost some clarity that way, but not as much as I'd expected (and some vids are worse than others).

As for the main topic, I love it. I've found a ton of supplemental programs that coincide with our lessons, particularly history and science

right underneath the tiny screen that says "View Full Screen." Click it, and it fills your screen. Press Escape to go back to a window.

I realize your set up might not look like mine. If this doesn't work for you, I would call Discovery Education (or United Streaming).
