ereks mom Posted January 29, 2008 Share Posted January 29, 2008 I read it as an 8th grader & I didn't "get it". I gave it to ER (12th grade) to read this past summer. He read maybe 1/4 of it and then lost interest. I didn't press him to finish it. One afternoon a few months ago, I came across the movie (1990) while channel surfing and recorded it. It's mostly like the book, but there are minor differences. I plan for ER & I to watch it together and discuss the themes. It gets into the symbolism of each major character, in addition to the shape of the island. There are pictures. Now that I just dated myself... Anyways, dd did it this year (7th) and it was fun. Especially since this book followed Fahrenheit 451. Really, its such a popular book that it has been evaluated from every conceivable angle. HTH!
