Sleep issues with 2 year old

Recommended Posts

Okay mama's, I need some serious help here. A couple of weeks ago my daughter who is 2 1/2 had croup. With the coughing fits she was unable to sleep at night and I had to keep her up and sit with her in the steamy bathroom. Well, she has gotten into sleeping all day and staying up all night. She's been well for over a week, but I don't know how to switch her back to her normal sleep at night schedule. She doesn't go to sleep until like 4 or 5 in the morning. She keeps me up because we share a room and she starts playing with toys, or chasing the cat around the house, or whatever else she does. Please help me think how to get her back on track. We start school on Monday and I NEED my rest!

I've tried waking her up during the day, or trying to keep her awake doing things but she's MISERABLE! She acts like a total witch when I try all of these things. I've tried giving her melatonin like I did when my son was young (he's autistic and needed it) but that has no effect on her.

I'm really at the end of my rope, and TIRED.

I think you're going to have to go through a couple of days of misery. My 2.5 year old is waking right now at 4 am--we're working on getting her to sleep longer. I'd try sliding her a few hours at a time--waking her at 10, keeping her awake until 10 pm and so on....then work back to 7 to 7 or whatever your schedule is.
