Pull behind travel trailer/camper? Who has one?

Recommended Posts

What do you use to pull it? Is this your daily driver or do you drive something else?

We have a travel trailer and have used inlaws truck to pull it but now that my dd is in a booster seat, seats have been rearranged and whoever sits in the middle rear seat doesn't have a shoulder strap. So, now we either drive 2 cars when we go camping or get something to pull it.

From the beginning our plan has been to get a suburban to pull it and for it to replace our older van (which is potentially on it's way out for good) but I do like driving a minivan and obviously the gas mileage is a bit better than a suburban.

I have contemplated getting another/newer but used van for a daily driver and getting an older than planned/cheaper suburban just to pull the camper. However I also know this means double costs on insurance, tags, upkeep etc... not sure it would be worth it just for the gas savings..kwim? Especially since we are home most of the week.

thoughts?

We have a pop-up camper and my sister has a smaller pull behind camper. We pull ours with our Suburban but that's not a daily driver for DH or I. We both work from home so if either of us need to go anywhere we drive my car which is a Volvo. Much better gas mileage. We mainly use the Suburban for camping, vacations, and whenever we need to haul a lot of people otherwise we're driving the Volvo.

My sister has a Ford Explorer that she pulls her camper with and it's her only vehicle. I don't like it as much as the Suburban because the third row is cramped and tiny with very little room for luggage in the back.

We absolutely love our Suburban for traveling! So comfortable and safe but if we had to do it again we would NOT get the one that's constantly 4WD. That was a gas guzzling mistake.
