Oops, duplicate account :/
To make matters worse, I keep reading rabies incidents in the news. Ugh. Should I get him tested. BTW, our new rule is no handling wild animals without gloves. Sigh.
DianeW88
I wouldn't worry about rabies in a mouse. But if you're concerned, you can call the Department of Wildlife in your area and ask.

Natalieclare
I bet *most* of the time you are just fine with having adventurous, nature loving kids! My husband won't give out medical advice over the internet, but he said he wouldn't take his kids in for a series of rabies shots after a field mouse bite. :tongue_smilie:;)

DianeW88
Oh, that is a great idea. I will call them tomorrow. Yes, I am worried. :blushing: You might not get anyone until Monday, but honestly, don't worry. Mice are too small to survive any bite they might have gotten from a rabies infected animal. I have never even heard of a child having to be vaccinated for a mouse bite....in the practice I worked at or any other (in two different states). I'm going to call just to be safe as posible, but this mama is feeling much better. Thank you!
Pippen
In our state it's the county health department that handles animal bite issues. I was bit by a feral kitten and went in to ER and they treated it very seriously (like any cat bite) due to the risk of infection. They also had to report any animal bite to the county health department, which in turn reports to the state.
