mellifera
Dd1 has struggled with math for years. She's very accelerated in other areas, but math has given her problems. She's very logical. You would think she'd do fine with math, but she hates it. So this year when she finished her 4th grade math book I decided to try a 6th grade book. We school year round, and I'd noticed that text books tend to spend the first half of the book reviewing what you learned last year. Once I explained this to dd1, she was fine with this. Now she loves math! I don't know if it's because we are using a different program that's better fit, or if it's because she doesn't have to do "boring" review, but something is finally clicking. Yay! :hurray:  :hurray:
Kimber
Congratulations! Which program did you switch to? I wonder too how much I squash the joy and excitement out of learning by going too slow for my kids? That's my goal for the next year, to be more in tune to what each child needs. mellifera
We switched from Modern Curriculum Press Math to Horizons. Until last year we used a combination of Miquon and MCP, and that was okay , but only okay. Miquon only goes through 3rd grade, though. The Horizons program has more puzzles and activities than MCP did:biggrinjester:. Most of the puzzles and activities have a Christian theme to them. So far it seems to be fairly solid. angela in ohio
My middle dd struggled with math, agonizing over it and showing a lack of interest. Then dh tested her with the W-J, and she tested several grade levels ahead of where I had her. I immediately went and bought her a book a few levels higher, and she has loved math ever since. It does make a huge difference!
love2read
All of my dc, gifted and not, prefer Horizon over MCP. Although the pages are busier, Horizon is easier on the eye, there is less copying that needs to be done it has more fun elements. I'm so glad you found something that works for her!
