TXBeth
So I decided to start DS3 on OPGTR today. DD5 virtually taught herself at 2 1/2, so this is my first real experience getting to "teach" reading. I was pretty sure he knew most of his letter sounds, thanks to Starfall and The Frog, so I planned to just skim quickly through the first 26 lessons to see if there were any letters he wasn't sure of. Predictably, he decided c and g say /s/ and /j/, but that's beside the point. As we were going through the letters, I would show him the card for, say, "R r" and ask "What letter is this?" He says, "R." I say, "what sound does R make?" He says "rrrr, like r, r, race. or r, r, red. or r, r, rinse." He did this with EVERY LETTER I asked him! I know this is not a big deal, and it's not a sign of genius or anything, but I had so much fun because I didn't realize he was able to come up with all these words with the same beginning sounds. Just makes me smile. :) Of course, at the end he started to get silly and say things like "Y says /y/ like y, y, y-no!" or "N says /n/ like n, n, n-lips." LOL :::sigh::: my boy is growing up. Just had to share.
