homeschooled for years

Recommended Posts

I homeschooled my three older ones for about 10 years. I became a single working/going to school mom and sent the kids to ps for a couple years now. This was really painful for me. I am remarried now and gained three more kids full time living in extreme tight quarters. They all go to the same PS now. Their PS is small and in general I'm happy with it but they certainly don't do enough hands on stuff and science stuff. Reading and writing wise my kids are advanced. Math wise my kids are not.

I have a 13yo son, 11yo d, 10yr o d, 6yrs o d, 6yrs o d and 4 yr o d.

I have signed the kids up during the summer for various summer day camps and such but I also want to do some more enrichment with them. I don't want to do more workbooks per se. More creative stuff like lapbooks and such but at the same time hitting some math basics and

science.

My younger ones except for 4 yrs old are on Headsprout. Will be finished with the program by early to mid Summer.

We have used previously Singapore Math, Well Trained Mind, TOPS, Abeka, Sonlight.....anything to encompass all the kids?

Well, you could do WinterPromise Sea and Sky or Animal Worlds, or any of their science themes -- Rock Around the Earth, Shoot Sprout Buzz and Bite -- and that would incorporate creative and science stuff for all of your kids.

For math, the only thing I think you could do with all of the kids is LivingMath.net.

WP looks like a full time homeschooling curriculum rather than afterschool program. It costs like a full time curriculum. I am not able to understand where they got the hands on activities/crafts. Is it in the teachers guide?

Preprinted?

It is, but some folks use the science programs just over a summer, which it sounded like you would be doing.

The activities/crafts are from multiple sources, sometimes books that WP publishes, sometimes from trade books, and sometimes off a CD.

This summer for my six kids:

We all will have VBC for the first two weeks of summer. This is only half day. And it is for FREE. I volunteer to teach a grade and I am so excited. I will be teaching Junior Achievement over the summer for the kids since there wasn;t time to include it during the school year.

My 13 yrs old son will have lifeguard camp and work experience and scuba diving camp through our Park and Rec. in July. Football practice starts in August.

My 11yrs old daughter will have Sparkling science camp (the science of lotions and such)-half day, a general nature camp with her younger sistersand a sewing/jewelry making camp-half day. Some swim lessons as well.

My 10 years daughter will have sparkling science with her 11yrs old sister, swimming and diving lessons, general nature camp.

My 6yrs old daughter will have swimming lessons, general nature camp, anatomy academy, a clay class and preengineering lego camp.

My 4 years old daughter have swimming lessons, half day general nature camp and a clay class.

At home they will do EPGY program, Pokemon Learning League, Great Science Adventure and NOble Nights of Knowledge.

I am too afraid to buy the Winter Promise curriculum yet-cost a lot and perhaps a lot of work.
