My oldest son is turning 11 in April.

I am looking for some good birthday gift suggestions for him.

He is extremely bookish (like me and DH) and so has a nice list of books on his list.

But he is getting older and capable of more and I am just pondering what would be good for him and interesting.

How much do you want to spend?

My boys at that age were wishing for ninetendo games, mp3 players (for audio books), nerf guns, and new baseball gloves...

What about a Kindle or a Nook? My bookish dd would LOVE that. It's expensive, but you could combine it with grandparents or something.

We gave our bookish 11 yo books for his birthday...and money to put towards the snowboard he wants to buy in the late fall.

Are you looking for titles?

We gave him Asterix and Tintins he didn't already have. A few cartoon histories of the world (I found a batch of used ones for a good price. we don't mind used books een as gifts) and a tintin dvd collection. We run through novels like water around here, so they aren't really gift-y to my kids. I just saw the big DK Universe book and I would have given him that if I had known about it before his birthday.

We gave him this for Christmas and everyone has loved it.

I might buy the universe book for DD. Her Bd is next week. Time to change my signature....

For my birthday I would like this:

Thanks for these ideas!
I am looking up a gibbon funline... no idea what that is!

I think what he would really like is a laptop... but that is out of our range this year- maybe a grandparent gift joint idea next year...

The kindle is a great idea...

We talked about and it is also way out of price range... but it is a great future idea.

Thank you very much!

A trip somewhere? At 11 I wanted to go places badly, like the new science museum. I also wanted a bb gun and a pocket knife. What about a pet fish?

A gift card to a store or restaurant that he likes?

Something from a good science store, like a rocket kit? Rock tumbler? They have all kinds of cool things if you just stop in one and look around!

Thank you for these links!
These actually suit my son who will be turning 10 and is my science guy! I know he will love these interesting books.
Thanks again,
Rebecca
