I'm planning for 10th grade next year and could use some input. So, what are you currently using or plan on using for 10th grade? So far I've got:

history: AOP LifePac (please no flames, dd chose this one)

math: Saxon Algebra 2

science: chemistry from somewhere - not sure which yet

lit: Foresman Traditions in Lit

Still working on the particulars and everything else. Would really love to see what others are doing!!!

My 10th grader will be doing:

Bible -- thorough New Testament & church history study with MFW WHL

History -- World History from Ancient Rome forward with MFW WHL

English -- British Lit & Writing with MFW WHL

Math -- Saxon, finishing up Alg 1, then Alg 2

Science -- finishing up Apologia Biology, then I'm not sure yet

Fine Arts -- Ballet & Piano

Math Elective -- Recordkeeping from CLE

Foreign Language -- Latin Alive! (getting started very late with this, and would've skipped it altogether except dd wants to learn Latin)

We school year round, so she's starting all her new stuff in April.

(And whether 10th grade is or is not the right designation for next year is a complicated question... but it's a reasonable fit for this purpose! LOL)

Science: Electronics (and the related parts of Physics)

Math: Art of Problem Solving - the problem solving books

History and Lit/Comp: US and Canadian history and literature, plus an extra bit of reading on immigration literature and issues of identity (maybe an extra half-credit?)

Microeconomics

Spanish 4 (Oklahoma State) - might be finishing up Spanish 3 at the beginning of the year, too.

Latin 2 (Lone Pine Classical)

The History and Lit/Comp curriculum is one I'm putting together myself from parts. We have the History of US DVDs and the CBC Canada: A People's History documentaries. We also have several US history books and one current History of Canada text, as well as several older resources on my Kindle. I'm assembling a list of literature... that's not done yet, but my thought is that I'll make the list and let DS choose which to read when as long as he's getting to all the topics I want to cover. I'd like some of his writing to compare the different perspectives on historical events that included both countries, and how each country was shaped by its different experiences. For the focus on identity and immigration he'll have some kind of major assignment (although the details are something we'll work out together when he has done more reading)... something about the variety of immigrant experiences, diasporas, national identity.... we'll see where it goes.

My son will be in 10th grade next year.

Math: second half of Saxon Advanced Mathematics

Latin: Henle Third Year Latin

Greek: Athenaze Book 2

Logic (review): Socratic Logic; Kreeft

Rhetoric: Classical Rhetoric for the Modern Student; Corbett

Science: Astronomy (haven't designed the course yet)

Great Books: Medieval history and literature

Fine Arts: drama, piano

Phys Ed: Water sports (scuba, sailing, surfing, swimming)

We are considering letting him take biology at the community college at some point next year, but that's still up in the air.

I have not gotten logic figured out yet. We did Thinking Toolbox and Fallacy Detective in 7th and 8th. What would be a good direction to go now?

I forgot to add music. Dd studies piano so that will count for a music elective.

She is doing a study of the Psalms for Bible. I'm not sure if she will do a study of the minor prophets or the writings of Paul next year.

Foreign language will be a continuation of Spanish.

For my rising 10th:

math: NEM 3 (AoPS Counting and Probability will be intertwined with NEM)

science: Biology (undecided but considering Science Shepherd. I have Singapore and like it, we've used BJU in the past and like it but consider it a bit overkill)

english: MCT, online writing course (looking at James Madison H.S. composition course - it's very basic, but I think that might be what the boys need - if you have any experience with this online H.S., I'd love to hear your opinion)

literature: continue with great books study

foreign language: probably Spanish perhaps through the BBC languages website (he'll take Spanish concurrently later)

history: Sonlight 200 (selections) with added readings to match with our great books study.

electives: logic, philosophy, World Views readings, still looking for other options

In all this, he will be Senior Patrol leader for his boy scout troop and working on his Eagle project. So he'll be a busy boy.

Math- I think maybe a basic math course from CLE and working through the Key to Geometry books.

LA- Lightning Lit, Wordly Wise(both, dd's choices), thinking maybe the Stewart english program suggested in TWTM.

Science- biology. I have a basic text, a biology coloring book, and I'm hoping to use one of the Labpaqs.

History- really undecided! Today I'm thinking about maybe using a Teaching Company lecture series for a little US history. DD would like to do a course on political philosophy but I can't find good introductory materials. We may do philosophy instead. And dd would like to do a course on food and culture and I have a list possible books for that (thanks to whoever suggested that here!).

We will also add in some Great Books study but won't stick to a strict chronological schedule. I'll try to vary the books and tie them in where I can with other subjects. And start practicing for the SAT/ACT exams.

How do I edit my post?

In the bottom right corner of your post, there is an "Edit" button (just to the left of the "Quote" button that you see on every post.) Use that, and then it will give you a chance to edit your post in a box similar to the one in which you typed it. When you are done making changes, click the "Save" button in the lower right corner. :001_smile:
