cricket1178
How do you know when to use "se" at the end of a word? for example: Levantarse? Hope this makes sense.
klmama
The "se" at the end of the word is used when the reflexive verb is in the infinitive form, not the conjugated form. So, with "levantarse" you would keep it on to say something like "Hay que levantarse temprano." "One has to get up early." When conjugating it you would use the appropriate forms: me levanto, te levantas, se levanta, etc. Or were you asking about why the "se" is there in the first place? If so, it's to show that the subject does the action to himself. "Lavarse" means to wash one's self. "Lavar" is just "to wash," as in washing something else. Does that make sense?
