Online Physics Class using Giancoli?

Recommended Posts

Really appreciate all the ideas so far.

memphispeg: Free is great but I forgot to mention that we prefer outside accountability for this class.

Sue in St Pete: I was really interested and checked out his website. Unfortunately, looks like he doesn't cover enough for SATII?

We are running out of time to prep for the AP Physics B this year, but am hoping to try for the SATII.

EKS: Keystone uses Giancoli for its AP Physics B.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again.

We were in the situation you are in last school year and ended up changing books, and now my ds is doing Giancoli this year with PA homeschoolers.

Is your dc graduating and having to do it now?

If not, maybe you could change course if s/he needs more of a base (you can get cheap used books)...For us, it seemed better to get a better physics and math base, so he could handle the workload more easily. He was able to do the problems, just not fast enough to make lots of progress. This year they are steaming through the book and he's getting a great grade, but it still takes a fair amount of time.

Also, have you been able to compare the material covered on the SAT to what's in the book?

No, not graduating soon. Just our own schedule to meet :)

I think DC has enough Math to handle Physics, but we haven't been able to devote our focus on it. An online class might force us to get it done?

It seems that most folks over at the College Confidential forum suggest using Giancoli plus a prep book to study for the SATII and I figured even if we don't end up doing the SATII, at least DC can get some solid Physics out of Giancoli and if necessary, self-study for AP Physics B next year or the year after.

So the problem is that you want the flexibility of starting now, working at your (her) own pace, with a certain text, at a certain level, and also a person who would hold her accountable?

If you have money, you could probably hire an online tutor...Kathy in Richmond does tutoring online and is not expensive - I should add though that this is more than just tutoring as she'd have to work out a schedule, etc, so there would probably be more than the online time charged.
