Rewrite from outline, unedited

The year 1916 was full of crushing defeats for Russia. On June 4, for example, Aleksey Brusiolov ordered an attack on a German position on the Austro-Hungarian front. In that campaign alone, one million Russian soldiers were killed.

After their losses on the June campaign, the Russian army dragged peasants off their farms for more soldiers. With no one growing food, the country starved. Angry Russian soldiers started chanting, "Bread and peace!" Food riots broke out in Petrograd, and 200 demonstrators were killed.

The Czar, Nicholas II, seemed helpless in his palace. The Russians no longer obeyed authority. His advisors said he should abdicate, and abdicate he did, on March 26, 1917. Russians got control of the government as the Czar dropped it, and set up a provisional government called a soviet.

Nikolai Lenin heard about the revolution, and travelled from Zurich, Switzerland, to take advantage of the turmoil. Ludendorf, head general of the German army, let Lenin pass through Germany on a special train; Ludendorf know that Lenin's presence would weaken Russia.

Lenin was treated like a hero on his arrival, and parades were held in his honor. He preached piously against war, and told the people of Russia what they wanted to hear. Soon after Lenin's arrival the Russians stopped acknowledging the provisional government.

Wow!! Is this really 2nd grader's writing...my ds is nowhere close to this, and he is in ps!

No, it is a 12 year old's writing! "Level 2" is the degree of detail required in the outline.

Level 1 means to find only the main idea of each paragraph.

Level 2 means to find the main idea AND the most important fact supporting the main idea in each paragraph.

Level 3 means finding those pieces of info plus additional details.

This is my 6 year old's writing (Charlotte Mason-style narration):

Captain John Smith was going to be killed. His hands were still tied behind his back. There were wooden clubs and flat stones over him. The girl with the beads moved toward Pocahontas. Powhatan was sitting high on a throne. The council house was filled with light.

I really like the rewrite he did from his outline. He included all the outline detail, but made it interesting so that it didn't seem like just a list of facts. Great job, especially for his first time!

Thank you very much! :)
