Converting an oven recipe to a crockpot one

Recommended Posts

Okay, in a fit of total stupidity, I purchased a chuck roast. I've never cooked one, I haven't the first clue what to do with it.

I searched my computer cookbook, and found a recipe - but it calls for cooking it for 4 hours in a 275 degree oven. My oven doesn't really do low temps. It's pretty much all on, or all off.

So - can I just throw everything into a crockpot and cook at for roughly 4 hours at 275 in there?

Somebody tell me that will work... or tell me a favorite recipe for chuck roast in the crockpot :)

If so, I may be set for my parents to arrive tonight. At least as far as what to feed them. My living room, and worse yet, the study where they will sleep still look like a tornado went through...

If it needs to be done in 4 hrs, you can do it on high. My only concern with chuck is that it might be tough. Do you have cooking wine? If you throw some wine in there, it will act as a tenderizer. V-8 will work. So will peperocinis, etc. Anything that is acidic will help. :)

Chuck cooked on low for 8 hrs turns out better.

Thanks to both of you!

No, it doesn't need to be done in 4 hours - I'm actually planning this for tomorrow night. I just needed to figure out what I would be making :) We live an hour away from a grocery store, and dh is on his way there now. I don't plan to head into town until they are leaving.

I've got cooking wine, and I've got overnight as an option. I think I'm set!

Thank you very much!!
