battlemaiden
punnett squares. This chapter kicked my son's hiney. Does anyone have any supplementary material, especially websites, we can visit to get some more info. I'm a science loving kind of gal, but this isn't anything I spent a great deal of time on in high school or college. Thanks. Jo
battlemaiden
I would especially appreciate work pages for extra practice. Thanks.
Lawana
Dd is right at Ch. 8. I'm thinking math is the key here. Combinatorics may be the key.
Tressa
I love genetics and found that module lacking. I found this online and we had fun with it. Click on the dragon genetics link on the side. http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/sci_edu/waldron/
Holly IN
We spent one month on Mod 8. I added a lot of stuff to it than what they had in that mod. I remember being very disappointed in it. We are done with the book but will get the Teaching Co biology dvds this summer when it goes on sale for a review for my son. I would like for him to clep it for fun. Also the book was lacking in explaining the punnett squares for my son so I spent A LOT of time with him getting him to understand how it worked. I do suggest spending at least an extra week on this module. We did it for one month and it helped a lot but if you are short on time...maybe do it for 3 weeks instead of two. April in CA
I always loved Punnett Squares - they seem like fun puzzles to me, and my boys were fine with them. However, when I did bio labs with my younger son and some of his friends, we added in a lab on Dragon Genetics (someone linked one for you; you can google to find others). This was a huge hit, and really helped cement the concepts for the guys. Much hilarity ensued while creating and mating various dragons and tracing their genetic inheritances - gotta love adolescent boys! Wishing you much fun with dragon labs! dkholland
Listed in the Apologia Biology book, or maybe it was in the answer book, it mentions to go to the course website mentioned in the beginning of the book. My son visited the sites on the Apologia book extras page and said they were helpful. This was the first module that was a challenge for him. I think he said there were more explanations of the punnet squares....
battlemaiden
This was the first module that was a challenge for him. Yep. I've been pretty hands off on this whole course and he's been handing in As on his work, so it surprised me when this test came back with a C. He was just plain confused. Now that I've gone through the chapter I can see he's going to need some extra resources. Thanks to everyone for your help, and especially for the Dragon Genetics site. Printing.....
