CBryant3
Have any of your children dual enrolled so that they could be in the college band? My 14 yr old ds has been playing the trumpet since he was 9 yrs. old, has private lessons, plays in the church orchestra, etc. He's been part of a home-school band now for 5 years, but the kids are just not as into it as he is and he's getting really frustrated. A local college here has a summer band camp for highschoolers that he attended last year and plans to attend this year. He's also been able to play at a band festival in a town a couple of hours away the past 2 yrs. He loves it. He's not interested in being part of a marching band, so the local highschool wouldn't be a good fit. There is no local youth orchestra here. Just trying to look at some options and wondered if anyone else has done this. Thanks for any input. CBryant:001_smile:

My 14yo has been in our local public school band since 5th grade. Marching band is such a small part of band, and my son has chosen not to participate in it. He is in jazz band and the regular group band. Maybe your school is different, but if you haven't checked into it, you might want to at least call and ask about it. Sunshine State Sue
I sing in our CC's community choir. When we perform, we perform with the college choir. There was a homeschooled teenager in the college choir for several years. I heard he started at 12. He was also a student conductor for 2 years. I think the CC offered more opportunities (student conducting, visit to Russia, performing on a cruise ship) and better quality than the local high school. He has since graduated and moved on... HTH!
