We are doing a one month free trial, and I think we are undecided about whether or not we will purchase it. The original plan was to drop cable and use Netflix. But we 'live streamed' it through the Wii to the TV last night for the first time, and it didn't work perfectly. The first movie we picked didn't work at all. The second one worked better, but still stopped to 'retrieve' a few times. And then my husband tried the first movie again, and it worked better (was this b/c I put a complaint in online? Do they 'fix' it somehow?)

When we started having these problems with the streaming, I started reading internet articles about how 'crooked' Netflix is. One particular guy said that regardless of which plan you choose and how much money you pay, they will only send you 6 DVDS per month. If you have had Netflix, do you think that is true? He also said that they 'bottleneck' their movie downloads so that they download slowly.

So, if you have or have had Netflix, was a it a good or bad experience?

TIA!

Jess

That's not true. We get more than 6 per month on heavily-used months.

Depending on your internet provider, Netflix might run slow for you if you're area is in heavy use. We've never had a problem with it streaming at all, though we use our PS3 for streaming.

I have Netflix. We have the two DVDs at a time plan. I have received more than 6 DVDs in a month. It depends on how quickly I watch the movies after I receive it and what day I return it. My returns usually post by midnight of the day I send them back and I have a new movie about two days later. There have been times when my local distribution center didn't have the DVD I wanted so they sent it from another center along with the next movie in my queue, so I have had three DVDs at one time.

We haven't had problems with our streaming. Just disappointed in the available choices. I may not know how it works, though. But I would like to watch current episodes of my favorite programs, not just older seasons. (So if someone knows how to do that with Netflix I would appreciate it if you would share your knowledge.)

There is a program you can look at for your PC. It's called Playon. It's $20 a year and, as long as your Wii has internet access you can use Playon to watch current tv shows, movies, etc. There is also a great selection of older shows (Hart to Hart, The Fall Guy).

Here's the link to Playon

We've had netflix for over a year. I've been more than impressed. Their turn around time is great. We just moved and have the same turnaround time in a new city. The selection is quite varied, a little hard to find some titles, but when you dig you'll find them. We're on a two out a time plan and never had an issue with the amount of DVDs we get in a month.

We've used the streaming online, via an Xbox, never had an issue. The few DVDs that we've had that didn't work correctly (usually due to scratches)were promptly replaced.

I've used Netflix for years and have zero complaints. Well, one complaint but they assure me that they are doing what they can: captions.

I even emailed them and asked for the instant download queue, yep, that was me. It was in place about a week after I requested it.

The only two quality issues I've had with instant download were Angel on My Shoulder which has been fixed and a Leave it to Beaver episode which I never went back to check. The soundtrack wasn't lined up with the action.

I love Netflix and besides the above, never have a problem. I lose movies from time to time, lose sleeves, mail them in with the bar code on the inside . . . and, bless their hearts, they forgive me every time and when a movie goes missing in the mail, they NEVER assume it's me!

I've had Netflix for several months now, and I know I'm getting more than six DVDs a month (I have the one-DVD-at-a-time plan), although I haven't kept count; I'm working my way through Star Trek Enterprise :). Once in awhile I've been unable to stream something on my laptop, but that's rare.

We are also going to be dropping satellite and just use Netflix and Internet.

If we are prompt about watching them and returning them, we get well more than six per month. We have the three at a time plan and we've had six dvd's in one week if we watch them right away (which we do if they are documentaries related to school topics) or children's movies. Dh and are a bit slower about watching our flicks.

I don't think they bottleneck the streaming. A lot is going to depend on your own internet service. Ours is very, very slow...not hard wired....line of sight from a tower six miles away and lots of trees in between so our download speed is not very good. Netflix at my m-i-l 's, she has fiber optic cable wired internet service, is screaming fast even on a Friday or Saturday night when Netflix is getting hit very hard.

Almost certainly not. Most likely it worked better the second time because your internet provider was less crowded at that time.

We are also in a one-month trial of Netflix and a three-month trial of Hulu Plus. I did them over the holidays so we could try them while the kids were home from college. So far, I LOVE Netflix and can't stand Hulu Plus for a variety of reasons. One thing I will say is that Netflix streaming works very well using our streaming Blu-ray player but basically does not work at all from our Wii. My conclusion is that our Wii, which is two years old, is not really up to the task of streaming video.

We dropped satellite and have no cable - we do have an antenna and we get 4 broadcast channels....

Netflix has been great. No problems. We occasionally get the 'retrieving" thing, but rarely.

The only time we get less than 6 a month (we usually get more) is when we forget to mail the envelopes :)

:iagree: Their service has been impeccable!

We don't have a problem with Netflix. Well, other than that I wish there were more shows and movies available for streaming. Apparently Netflix is working on that and trying to negotiate for more streaming.

One time I was watching a movie on my laptop, and it kept buffering. It was making me crazy, and I just gave up. I assumed it was either my computer or our internet provider, so I didn't complain to Netflix. A few days later (remember, I didn't contact them) I got an email saying they were aware of a recent streaming problem, AND that they were going to credit our account. The amount was tiny, but the idea behind it was to make happy customers. Netflix really does try to make customer service a priority.

We are looking to cut costs due to an unexpected rise in our mortgage payment. We will probably give up satellite, and I'm now looking for more creative ways to watch tv. What can you watch on YouTube? I've only ever used it to watch clips -- never an entire show or movie.

Off to search the forum, because I know the "giving up cable" question has been asked and answered before.

Hulu is the site for streaming TV shows.

I love commercial-free TV!

yes!

We've had Netflix for about 2 months now. No problems. We stream onto the laptop. It's lightning fast. Every once in a while it will stop and I'll need to refresh it, but it's rare, and it starts up again immediately when I refresh.

Six dvds per month?? RIDICULOUS INSINUATION! We have the three a month plan and get dozens and dozens of dvds per month. If I mail a return on a Thursday before 5 pm, the replacement usually arrives on Saturday.

As for streaming, no problems.

We've had Netflix for a few years and really like it. I also wish there were more options in the instant section (particularly documentaries, since they're useful for school). We're also used to using subtitles on movies and shows, so I'll be glad when that becomes available instantly (we've also requested that and been told they are working on it). Currently the only things with subtitles are foreign language films.

We were given a Roku for Christmas (I think the kind we have runs about $70--the midrange one) and so far we're thrilled. We've added (for free) the Buddhist channel, a Spanish-language channel, an anime channel, and more. There are more channels available with subscription, including sports (haven't checked it out as we aren't interested), foreign-language channels, etc. We haven't tried regular Hulu through it yet (and aren't ready to pay for Hulu plus). We've also watched a number of things from Netflix on it and had no real problems.
