Teachin'Mine
of Calculus!!! :) I don't know if it's news to anyone else, but I was googling to see if Saxon Calculus has approval as an AP course (the AP thread got me wondering) and I found talk of a 2nd edition. I was so hoping they'd update it to include the graphing calculator and all and they have! Here's the description from the Saxon Publishers website: Calculus is designed for prospective mathematics majors and students interested in engineering, computer science, physics, business or the life sciences. The program covers all topics in the Advanced Placement Calculus AB and Calculus BC syllabi. Instruction takes full advantage of graphing calculators, using them for visual demonstrations of concepts and confirming calculations. Has anyone used this book or seen it? Is it much different from the first edition?
1Togo
We've only used the first edition, and our sons did not attempt the AP. However, we used RC for years, and all of Dr. R's children based AP Calculus AB and BC using the first edition, so it can be done with the orignial textbook. I do know the Robinson children used standard prep guides for AP as well. In fact, they used AP prep guides and passing AP courses for all of their high school work. The youngest son passed every AP test on the list -- at that time. He could have entered college as a senior.

1Togo
Yes, and it is an amazing story and an unusual family. I posted about it on K-8 thread. All the children have earned or are in the process of earning Phd's in science fields. Some have earned double Phd's. However, Dr. R and his family have faced opposition throughout the years because of his conservative political views. Right now, three of his children are facing problems in their Phd programs from people who opposed his candidacy for U.S. State Representative. This has just come into play since the November election. Dr. R came from zero public recognition to a run tight race. His opponents do not want him to run again. Btw, his children are creative problem solvers. Two of this sons came up with a process to reduce the cost of making magnetic car signs from $12/$15 per sign to about $2 per sign. At that price, they were able to plaster cars in the ares with the magnetic signs. Btw, I am writing a narrative. I am not trying to generate a discussion of the Robinson family politics or even their way of life and homeschooling. I am presenting it as an interesting homeschool story. Teachin'Mine
Thank you for posting the update. You're welcome. :) I would love to hear from anyone who has seen it and can compare it with the first edition. I'm going to check if it's available for sale on the sites I usually check for Saxon texts. They may have sample pages. Now if they would only come out with a statistics course. :D Edited to Add: I have a feeling my "news" isn't very new. On Christian Book Distributor's site, it's showing a publication date of 2006, so I guess this has been out a while.
