Holly IN Posted January 9, 2011 Share Posted January 9, 2011 Hello, First of all, the forms I have found for keeping track of grades are in quarters. If I do this then how do I get a semester grade if there are quarterly grades? For ex: Let's say son gets a B for the quarter but for the 2nd quarter he gets an A....How do I combine the two to get the semester grade? Or do I start over with the 1st quarter points and then add in the 2nd quarter points then get the average? Sorry I hope I am making sense in this. Nobody is explaining how to get the semester grades. All they are doing is explaining the quarter system. Kareni Posted January 9, 2011 Share Posted January 9, 2011 If your child is taking classes from you or others that give quarter grades, then you need a transcript that is formatted that way. If your child is getting grades on a semester system, then you need a transcript that is formatted that way. There is really no reason to try to get semester grades if your child is on a quarterly grading system. My daughter's transcript showed only final grades for classes taken in grades 9, 10 and 11. (Some of those classes were worth one credit, others were worth only a quarter or a half credit.) I only included quarterly grades in 12th grade. Holly IN Posted January 9, 2011 Author Share Posted January 9, 2011 Ok The online class is done in a semester system as far as grading goes. The co-op does it in quarters. I prefer to do my stuff in semester. Most colleges in Indiana (I have done a lot of research) prefer to see both semesters on the transcript instead of a one final grade. They want to see semester 1 and 2 on there. The forms I have found are done in quarters so I do not know why I can't find any that is semester based. I will probably set up excel to do semester only. HistoryMom Posted January 9, 2011 Share Posted January 9, 2011 If each quarter is weighted the same, and it's the same classes for both quarters, you can add the number grades for each quarter together, then divide by two to average them. Is that what you mean? For example, if you have two quarters of math, and first quarter is 85 and second quarter is 95, the semester grade would be (95+95)/2=90. Ellie Posted January 10, 2011 Share Posted January 10, 2011 It is common for the school year to be broken up into either six 6-week grading periods or four 9-week grading periods (I experienced both of them when I was in school).
