plain jane Posted January 8, 2011 Share Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) I've bought TOG Y1 for next year so while I'd love to own this series I'm not in any sort of hurry to buy it. However, I am interested in this book from the series: Can I just buy this one book by itself? Will it be useful to me to incorporate primary source docs into our history studies or does it need to go with the rest of the set? Oh... and if you own this set, would you mind sharing how much you paid for it- or approximately? I'd like to get an idea of what a good price would be for this series. Thanks. The set is available on amazon but it's pricey and hasn't dropped in over 6 months (sigh). It's also not available for amazon prime (no idea why). The primary source volume for it has primary source documents from the different time periods and locations. It also references where it would match up in the volumes. Hakim's History of US Sourcebook is very similar. I think you'd be able to use it without the other volumes if you're just looking for primary sources in one place. Otherwise, you could probably get them all separately through other sources (google books, Project Gutenberg, etc). So I'd think it'd depend on what you'd be looking for the sourcebook for. Board members have found them from anywhere around $60 for used up to about $125 new on average. The primary source books in either set are handy to have and can stand alone without the other books. Look on Amazon for single volumes, but I'd email and ask to CONFIRM it is what they say it is (if you are getting it used). Does your library not have it/not able to get it? I did finally decide that I don't need the entire set. I think I'll focus on getting the Egpytian, Roman, Greek, and maybe one Asian and that'll be good enough. - Oh, and the resource book.
