Roxy Roller
For those of you who use WriteShop, is it easy to use it across the curriculum? Are there any ideas in the manual for using it across the curriculum? I would also appreciate any opinions you might have on it as a program in general. Samiam
We using it. I don't really use it across the curriculum, if you mean incorporating it into other subjects. At this point, I am just trying to get DS12 to write a few decent paragraphs, so we focus on writing in Writeshop. I do ask him to write short papers in History, but don't necessarily incorporate Write shop teachings in that. I hope, as he gets more comfortable with writing that eventually what he learns in Writeshop will overflow into other writings. So far, the lessons in Writeshop have been very specific. One he described a person, one he described a clown, a pet, and a item of food. So the lessons are very specific to that particular subject. In Appendix B: Supplemental Activities WS does have ideas for writing across the curriculum (expanding writing into areas of current study, such as literature, art, music, science, or history)
Sunshine State Sue
We used Write Shop in 6th-7th-8th grade. You may read my review here. I didn't use it much for across the curriculum then, but now ds uses what he was taught all the time: brainstorm, outline, sloppy copy, 1st revision, final draft; sentence variations; descriptive adjectives; action verbs; etc. As Tammy said, Appendix B is full of suggestions. Thank you, Sue. I read your review and I think this may be what I am looking for. I am going to have to take a closer look at it.
