8filltheheart
We always get new board games for Christmas and open them before Christmas day so that we can play them during our vacation. Today we opened Ticket to Ride Europe. We love it. Just wanted to share another great game. It is fast paced and unlike games like Settlers of Catan (another family favorite), it can be played in about an hour (and that is with 5 people playing. I would assume that fewer people would mean an even shorter game.) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000809OAO/?tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=4324744825&ref=pd_sl_82hu26z601_e Edited December 20, 2010 by 8FillTheHeart
Capt_Uhura
Thanks for the rec....we have several of the Settler type games....Glad to find something that can be played in an hour.
HRAAB
Thank you for mentioning this. I've been looking for a new game for a family gift, and this sounds like something we would enjoy.
8filltheheart
Thanks for the rec....we have several of the Settler type games....Glad to find something that can be played in an hour. Oh my, yes! We typically play seafarers w/cities and knights with 6 players.......it takes hours! We love it, but this is a refreshing change of pace. In TTRE, each player can only perform 1 choice/turn. Turns literally last seconds.
pooh bear
We have the Marklin edition of Ticket to Ride, which is set in Germany. Ds is getting the Nordic countries edition for Christmas. We may have to get the Europe and USA editions, just to make a complete set. :D
mom2boys030507
My boys are younger but my husband and I love to play Carcassonne. We love this game and so do our friends. We play with 3 to 4 add ons and the games last about 1.5 hours.
Debbie in OR
We buy a game every Christmas as well and this year, I was way ahead of myself and bought the Lord of the Rings version of Monopoly (we have exhausted two other versions :tongue_smilie:). But I bought it in October, hid it, and my dc accidentally found it looking for something else. :glare: So, I have been in search of another one...this looks perfect, especially since we are studying Middle Ages/Europe right now. Plus, my dd gets bored with Settlers of Catan because it takes too long... Thanks!:001_smile:
Melissa in CA
We LOVE Ticket to Ride!! (and Settlers and it's various components). This reminds me that I wanted to get the Europe version...it's a great way to learn a bit of geography. ;)
Paintedlady
So glad to hear this! We always get a board game as well, and bought the US version of Ticket to Ride this year. Can't wait to play it on Christmas!
Sweet Home Alabama
Where is the best place to buy Ticket to Ride? If I could find it at a good price and for Christmas arrival, I'd like to buy it.
Capt_Uhura
8FilltheHeart - Darn you woman! I just ordered that game and paid shipping in order to get it by Christmas. The grandparents are here and will love to play that game with the boys. They are European and Papa loves trains so it's a win-win. And you can play it in 1hr. Did I say that already. I told the boys I'm sorry but I've given up on Axis and Allies. I told the boys they are on their own. Too many parts for me.

My 9 yod is holding her own and actually won a game (much to her brother's chagrin!) ;) Hope they like it! :D
catholicmommy
We love Carcassonne here too! And we just bought the Kids of Carcassonne for the littles (they get a game on the feast of St. Nicholas), and even the preschoolers have been playing it. (every day!). We also really like banannagrams.

Kareni
A few games we really enjoy for teens and adults are: Wise and Otherwise Balderdash The Game of Things and, if you want a mental workout, Clue and Equate.
