I want these:

-Teaching students to work independently

-A Plan for Teaching Writing - Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric

-What is Literary Analysis?

-If I Could Do it All Again

-Educating our Children as We Educate Ourselves

Any other don't misses? Our science and Great Books plans aren't WTM ish. Is the Writing without Fear her older writing MP3 series?

I have the three writing lectures and I cannot praise them enough.

I also have The Joy of Classical Education and I really like that one. It works really well with the writing. It gives a great overview of classical education and its goals etc. It gives me clarity. I think that one deserves consideration. yes, I own the book TWTM (first and third edition) but this was not just a rehashing of the books.

I also own the 'working independently' and have found it a real confidence booster. Who knew I was doing things right, lol! It gave me a good idea of where I want things to go. If you are trying to move in that direction it does give very hands on advice.

My next one will be literary analysis. My son is charging into analysis full speed and I want to make sure I know what my goals are. he is jumping the gun a bit but he has always been a mature reader.

I also own the science lecture. It is helpful but not as helpful as I would wish. It seems to be more geared towards a fundimentalist perspective. I did get some worthwhile ideas but I had to a lot of discarding as well.

So, I don't know if this was helpful at all! I think you can't go wrong with the writing lectures. After that, I would go for the working independently. If you had one more I would suggest The Joy of Classical Education.

:iagree::iagree:

I found the writing ones the most helpful (skip writing without fear, it's the old 3-in-1 and the 3 seperate ones are much, much better and more detailed). The literary analysis and the teaching a student to work independently were also really helpful for me. I enjoyed the Great Books (but we are doing history/lit the WTM way).
