Dooley
I teach a history class and we would like to get together for movie night. I need a DEFINITIVE movie on the Civil War (factual, informative), or the Crimean War (??), Flo Nightengale.....I can think of CW movies, but nothing that quite nails it in an evening.... Thoughts, ladies??
choirfarm
Well, this may be longer than you want, but Ken Burns Civil War series is EXCELLENT. You could pick and choose which episodes or which parts of episodes you use. I was teaching 8th grade American History when this came out and I have a teacher's guide that is excellent and has worksheets and ideas in it that go with the series. You might google and see if you can find that. It wouldn't surprise me if it was available to download. If you want a movie, movie then Gettysburg is good and accurate. It follows the book Killer Angels exactly. Christine
FloridaLisa
Two feature film recommendations: Gettysburg, based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. Gods and Generals, based on the novel by Jeff Shaara (the son). Both are excellent movies. The Killer Angels was an excellent book and dissected the Gettysburg battle from the viewpoints of both Southern and Northern generals. I recall the movie was very good as well.
