Tohru
What a great list! Do you have a Sonlight catalog? They have books and descriptions listed in there that might be what you are looking for. It looks like some of the books he's read are Sonlight books. I've heard the complaint that most their titles are more appealing to boys than girls.

Laura Corin
Some of those have sequels: Cricket in Times Square, Doctor Doolittle, My Side of the Mountain, The Borrowers, The Jungle Book. Other ideas: More Kipling - The Just So Stories, Puck of Pook's Hill, Rewards and Fairies, moving on to Kim. More Roald Dahl Swallows and Amazons and sequels Redwall (series) Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes and also The Lost World) Jules Verne The Hornblower series The Biggles series (some dated racial attitidues, I think) Tarzan (also dated racial attitudes) H G Wells (War of the Worlds and others) King Solomon's Mines (probably dated racial attitudes). E Nesbit The Saturdays (and sequels) Laura Edited November 29, 2010 by Laura Corin
Lady Florida.
I don't know what age/grade your son is. Mine has read many on your list. Others I have on the list for him to read. I also plan to have him read Animal Farm and Fahrenheit 451.

Sebastian (a lady)
Swiss Family Robinson Treasure Island 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 101 Dalmations Hatchet Carry On, Mr Bowditch Young Fu of the Upper Yangtze Daughter of the Mountains The Hobbit books by Lloyd Alexander My kids have also enjoyed many of the books from Bethlehem Books like Rolf and the Viking Bow. What about Rosemary Sutcliff books like Eagle of the Ninth (there is a movie coming out soon). Those are good and chunky (Though I'd warn you away from Song for a Dark Queen about Boudica, which has dark, adult themes. Sword at Sunset is an adult retelling of Arthur). Detectives in Togas and The Roman Ransom Mystery Swallows and Amazons Understood Betsy (about a girl but my kids begged for more chapters) Half Magic (which has several sequels)
amyco
Great replies! I am going to look up some for my 10 yo ds. He also likes Lloyd Alexander (esp. the Prydain series) and Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising series. He's also enjoying Gregor the Overlander series by Suzanne Collins. He enjoyed Tunnels too but it might be a wee dark. :glare:
