Transcripts and credits

Recommended Posts

I homeschool my daughter and plan to homeschool her through her high school years But I have no clue where to start with her transcripts and credits. She is only in the 7th grade right now so I figured that if I started trying to learn now I would know more by the time she is in the 9th grade..... Does anyone know where I can find out how to make transcripts and how credits are figured out? I thought about putting her in the abeka dvd academy through her highschool year but someone told me that not all colleges would recognize an Abeka diploma........

There's some good information on HSLDA's website:

http://www.hslda.org/highschool/

Are you wanting to give your child a classical education?

If you like ABeka because you like what and how they teach, then go for it. But if you are considering it because they provide a transcript, I think there are many, better options available. Hopefully, the HSLDA information can show you that you CAN do this .

I'd suggest getting the book, Homeschooling High School; Planning Ahead for College Admission, by Jean Gowen Dennis. Your local library may have if they have other books about homeschooling. I purchased and began reading this book when my oldest (ds) was in 7th grade, and I found it very helpful. It gave me a good sense for the big picture of high school, how to plan courses, how to do my own transcript, how to figure out credits, etc. I referred to it over and over throughout ds's high school years.

The other good thing to do is to hang out on this board--watch the new threads, and search for old threads on topics like transcripts that you want to find out more about. I gained much knowledge this way as well.

You really can do this yourself--there's no need to turn it over to someone else. :001_smile:

Along with the other great suggestions by the other posters, I'd like to point you towards the pinned threads at the top of the high school board -- a fabulous accumulation of wisdom on getting started and topics for all through high school, all in 2 big pinned threads! Welcome to high school planning, and BEST of luck! Warmest regards, Lori D.
