Why didn't anyone tell me about registering for the ACT?

Recommended Posts

DD can take it for required testing. (The SAT doesn't work but the ACT does.) So that's what we're going to do all through high school. I started to register her but there was a note to the side to parents to let the kids do it cause some questions were directed toward the student. It was like filling out her life story! It took about 1/2 an hour and then we finally got to the point where it said "would you like to registered for the ACT?" or similar. At that point it was easy peasy. But good grief!

When my son took the PLAN test this year (pre-ACT), I told him there would be pages of questions about his interests etc. I told him I was okay if he filled them out or not, since the only thing it will do is fill our mailbox to overflowing with college ads. I figure the ACT must make some of its money that way? I still get college ads for my 26 year old, so it's at least 10 years before the last mailing list drops you :)

DS enjoyed that part... and I was giggling over the career advice it ended with because it agreed with what I'd already said a dozen times.... :D

I think we checked a box saying we didn't want mailings.... so far that's worked. They probably do make a ton off selling that list though!!
