Jean in Newcastle
This is my Friday night question brought to you by "Blue Bloods". On a number of cop shows set in NY, the police officers keep requesting assistance forthwith. Is that really how people in this day and age actually talk? RoughCollie
On a number of cop shows set in NY, the police officers keep requesting assistance forthwith. Is that really how people in this day and age actually talk? My husband isn't a cop, and he says "forthwith". So do I, but I probably picked it up from him. unsinkable
I think it's a holdover. I've heard it used (in movies & TV still) when calling for backup or paramedics/ambulance.
unsinkable
Found this: FDNY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE RADIO CODES 10-85 Need additional unit(s) (specify forthwith/no emerg.)
NanceXToo
LOL having been born and raised in NY and not moving to PA until I was around 27 years old, I can say that I don't think I have EVER heard anybody actually use the word "forthwith." Mejane
Found this: FDNY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE RADIO CODES 10-85 Need additional unit(s) (specify forthwith/no emerg.) Interesting. I'm a NYer and, like Nance, I've never heard anyone use that word.

Well, I say things like it "behooves" us to do such and such or that someone should do their chores "post haste" but that's just because I like to play with words;)
Rene Austen
Well, I say things like it "behooves" us to do such and such or that someone should do their chores "post haste" but that's just because I like to play with words;) HA! I do this too, and my Ds says, "Mooooom--nobody talks that way!" But he is young and obviously mistaken! :D
