jld
that his little brother should study hard, did he give any reasons why, or what specifically to study? I was intrigued by that comment and have been meaning to ask you if you would elaborate . . . Thanks!
Nan in Mass
It has cropped up a few times, with both older brothers, in several different contexts. I think in general, they were remembering how much they had not-wanted to study and trying to back me up because they thought their brother should be studying hard at this period of his life because that is what that period of one's life is for. They both know that with homeschooling, it is all too easy to be lazy or overly relaxed about things like math and wind up unable to go to college. The programs they are in aren't terribly hard, but one has to have a solid grasp of algebra and a reasonable work ethic to survive. They know people who didn't work hard and either quit college or weren't accepted. They are relieved to have reasonable job prospects upon graduation (the school reinforces this). They know that our family takes long periods off to travel or to play or for other projects and are old enough to see that the price for this is having to work pretty hard the rest of the time and wanted to make sure their brother understood that and didn't just think it was mum being silly. -Nan
