Spin-off: Science in the news

In a recent thread on textbooks vs. real books, Jane in NC commented about the many news articles in the news this past week and how much she missed having a homeschooler to discuss them with. In a different thread, JennW pointed me to an LA Times article on water management, dams, and aqueducts in China (basically moving a LOT of the water from the south into the desertifying north).

So I wondered whether anyone would be interested in sharing what current science news they've done, thought of doing, or wished for means of doing, with their kids of late. (Or maybe, simply how you use the news as part of your studies.)

Today, for instance, I read my dd "Google Cars Drive Themselves, in Traffic," from the New York Times online. (Every time I try to link to a Times article, it misfires, so if anyone would PM me instructions on how to put a link into a post, I'd be so grateful!) We're also reading about the Nobel Prize for this year.

Later this afternoon we're reading "Superbug," an article in the latest issue of Muse magazine.

Anybody else?
