Thomas Sowell books for kids?

Are there any books like Thomas Sowell's The Economics and Politics of Race or Civil Rights: Rhetoric or Reality? for younger children ( 12+).

 

The tiny bit I'm catching by reading is that affirmative action has had a negative economic impact on the people it was suppose to help the most.

 

Also that the driving thinking behind anti- discrimination policies is to prove that it does or doesn't exist based on statistics.

 

We're studying the Civil Right Movement. I want to teach my kids about the discrimination and segregation. There are plenty of wonderful books to show the struggles. But, I also want them to see the thinking that drives policy today also.

Most all of these are written for the newspaper audience, so they are usually not nearly as academic as some of his books. Even among his books, I've noticed some are more difficult than others.

 

Oftentimes Sowell uses parables and stories in the articles, which make them accessible and memorable to the younger set.The bonus feature of the fables is the essay also acts as an example of some classical writing techniques (without the giant-sized complex paragraphs, since this is for the general reader.)
