Michelle in AL
I really like Holt Geometry that I think Jann in Texas recommended. I like the explanations, they have been thorough and rarely have we needed extra help. I especially like how it approaches a concept from all different angles in one lesson. This struck me as important when we had the thread on here about how learning is most effective if a concept is apporached in different ways and places. This text seems to fit that description without being overly difficult. What Alg 2 would be similar?
hoosiermom
I can't tell from your post if you're using the on-line video instruction that accompanies Holt Geometry. I am also using Holt Geometry (based on Jann's recommendation) with my co-op class this year. Since I only meet with my students once per week for 90 minutes, we depend a great deal on the video instruction to "fill in the gaps." The videos are extremely well done and are presented by Prof. Burger, who has also done some of the Teaching Company math videos. Dd, who is in my co-op geometry class, likes Prof. Burger so well that we are planning to use Thinkwell Alg 2 next year just because he does those videos also. I, too, would like to thank Jann for her contributions. Based on her recommendation, I'm using Lial's BCM for my prealgebra co-op class, and it's working great as well. Michelle in AL
I love Dr. Burger and have used his videos from hotmath for yrs to supplement our math. I really like this text though too. I wonder if the Thinkwell program is as good?
Jann in TX
The texts have the same format--video lessons and all. They are still a bit busy for me--so I'm sticking with the Lial series for Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 (my dd is using and liking Lial's Precalc). Michelle in AL
Thanks Jann, I had real issues with the busyness and the overabundance of problems, but I've seemed to overcome it. I think we'll stick with this through Algebra 2.
