missesd
A friend of mine is using Learning Language Arts through Literature. I admit have an all inclusive spelling, vocabulary, grammar, etc... would be nice. But I never saw it mentioned in my 3rd edition WTM, so this morning I ordered my R&S from the seconds sell. Now I am wondering if I should have compared more first?? I hate second guessing myself, but this WTM (not homeschooling) is a whole new world for us. paula j
I would LLATL to be more literature based than classical, it is a good program though and I got some good writing projects out of my son with it.
HollyDay
Personally, I consider LLATL more Charlotte Mason style than classical. CM purists might disagree with me on that though!!
Melissa in Australia
Personally, I consider LLATL more Charlotte Mason style than classical. CM purists might disagree with me on that though!! That is interesting, Not about the LLATL ,but about Charlotte Mason. I was under the impression that Charlotte Mason was a form of Classical Education. I used LLATL but the older grades 8th green and Brittish Lit. gold) and they were nice, but for my 7th grader it was too weak. Not enough grammer, more like a quick review. The spelling was almost non-existent, 4-5 words a week during the grammar weeks. We would pull words from his dictation he misspelled but still that only gave him a word or 2 more. No vocabulary. I will admit the poetry units were wonderful though. How LLATL is with the younger grades I do not know, maybe more grammar and spelling. We dropped this after week 9 because ds needed more grammar. As for classical or CM, I say it was more CM.
HollyDay
I agree with BugsMom. LLATL was way too light for us. However, we are liking their high school Gold book on American lit. It is a great lit study. But, I do not consider it a "complete" LA program. I'm supplementing with vocab, grammar review, and writing. We supplemented a vocabulary program when doing the LLATL Brit Lit course as well as writing. It was not a stand alone all in one course.
