dm379
Just in case anybody was interested. :D Yesterday we wrapped up our first 9 weeks of our first full year of "real" homeschooling. :hurray: We've hs'ed before but the kids were young so it was really mostly reading. Here's some tidbits of what we learned: -Do not try to melt soap in a plastic cup in the microwave. It will mess up the bottom. -Moon sand is not a good substitute for real sand when making fossils. -Kids love science. Mom, not so much. And Bill Nye along with Magic School Bus does count as a full science class. For now, at least. -Schoolwork on a rainy weekend is not mean and cruel but more of a sanity saver. Plus it makes for more fun time when the rain finally stops. -The only way there will ever be enough time in the day to do everything is to give up my favorite hobby of sleeping. DH has been off of work the past 3 weeks. Yesterday he cried (he would KILL me if he knew I was posting that in public!) because he has to go back Monday and he wouldn't get to help teach the kids. He has loved being with them 24/7 and is now completely, 100% on board with homeschooling as long as I want. Before he was okay with homeschooling as long as the ps in our area was poor but now he doesn't see a need for the kids to go to ps again. He's also admitted that it's a lot more work than he gave me credit for. I didn't even have to threaten him for that admission. :D So our first quarter went very well. Much better than expected, in fact. DS has made huge improvements in his reading. I never knew both my kids are math whizzes. We do have some problems of course like attitude issues and sloppiness but I really hope the rest of our year goes as smooth as the beginning. For now, at least. This was 50% of our science when my dc were that age (the other 50% was choosing science library books each week.) That's cute about your dh missing yoru school. :001_smile:
