FLVS users -

am I reading this right? Alg. I is a pre-req. for Geometry? Is that only for the honors class or the reg. class too?

 

Ds wanted to double up this yr.- 9th. I was hoping to farm it out since my 3 year old is so demanding of my time.

That's what I read on the web site. He could always do FLVS Alg 1 and do Keys to Geometry as an Intro course at the same time. It would still count as 2 credits, but the Keys to program isn't usually considered a full program.

My kids have never taken a math from FLVS so I don't know how time consuming they are but for the sciences and social sciences, mine have never needed the time allotted to finish the class. They both tend to like to study in "blocks" and focus on 2-3 subjects at a time. Maybe he could do Alg I this fall and Geometry in the spring? My youngest is working towards having chemistry and history at FLVS done by Christmas.

Thanks for responding K and Kate. Ds is working through Foerster Alg. I now. If he finishes early, maybe we can get in Geometry through FLVS.

 

Or, we could skip FLVS and do some other Geometry course - like the one used in Math w/out Borders.

 

What do you think? Is Alg. really necessary before beginning Geometry?

Not all algebra is necessary but algebraic thinking is. So while knowing about the quadratic formula isn't necessary, understanding how to manipulate equations is. I have a similar requirement for economics that I teach.
