melmichigan
For those who still want it new, but at less cost: I just wanted to share that the newer versions of many of the CD math programs are available from the publisher. You just need to look up the ISBN numbers on Cengage Learning or CengageBrain, write down the numbers, and call to order directly from HMHCo. According to the rep, because of changes in policy you cannot order the DVD's online online unless you are a school, but can if you ID yourself as a homeschooler over the phone. I purchased the Prealgebra 5th edition textbook, student solutions, and DVD's (now down to 5 because of advances in recording) for $225 with shipping. amyco
Thanks for the info!! One question I am dying to know the answer to, as I cannot seem to figure it out: The DVD for this book--5th Ed. Elementary Algebra by Larson, seems to be also for the Elementary and Intermediate Algebra: A Combined Course. The ISBN I can find for it is 978-0618753963. So I am wondering if the DVD then matches up with the correct algebra book? Is there a different ISBN for the DVDs? Am I making any sense?? :001_huh: When I looked at the Cengage site, under supplements listed for Elementary Algebra, there were no DVDs listed--only something called PowerLecture with Diploma and Videos. Hmmm... I'd really like to spend half the money on this!
Sumiller
Amy, I think I can answer this question. :) I purchased the DVD's to go along with the Elementary/Intermediate combined course. On the cover of the DVD case it states. . . FOR USE WITH: Elementary Algebra Elementary and Intermediate Algebra Intermediate Algebra
Ida
I have the generic version of CD for 4th edition and the discs include lectures for 3 texts: Elementary, Intermediate, and combined. On the opening menu you click on which text you are using, then which lesson you want. Right now we are doing Elementary Algebra. Since I already have the disks, I will just get the textbook and answer key for Intermediate Algebra and we'll be all set.
amyco
Brilliant! That's exactly what I wanted to know! Thanks so much! Oh dear. I just thought of one more thing--will these DVDs work with a Mac?
melmichigan
The fifth edition says Mac OS 10.2.8+, they are also compatible with a standard DVD player. I imagine those requirements are pretty much across the board for that publication year.

I would like to purchase the Chalk Dust Math ACT-SAT Review but am not having any luck finding the ISBN number on either site.
amyco
Thank you! I am very glad to hear that. Our prealgebra DVDs from Houghton Mifflin work with the Mac, but we weren't sure about the new ones for 5th ed algebra. Can I just say how thankful I am for this board? I would just call HCHCo and ask since mine are 5th edition Prealgebra. The sales rep was extremely helpful and answered all my questions regarding return policy (30 days even if opened) and computer compatability, Vista +Mac. From the Cengage Site: Lecture Videos Elementary and Intermediate Algebra (ISBN-10: 0547140274 | ISBN-13: 9780547140278) Instructional DVD's by Dana Mosely to accompany Larson, Developmental Math Series, 5e. There are also different ISBN numbers listed for each individual book for "power lecture and video lectures", I am unsure what they are. Maybe I'll find time to call and ask later. amyco
I looked at the preview pages of the 5th ed. Larson algebra books at amazon.com, and there was a page that described the supplements. Apparently the PowerLecture CD-rom is for teachers to create tests, slides, overheads, that type of thing. Again, thanks for the help and info. I really appreciate it! :)
melmichigan
I just thought I'd add that I was pricing the 5th edition elementary and intermediate algebra books, etc. with the publisher today and they are cheaper new then listed on amazon used in some cases. They are also $20-30 less through the publisher directly than on the Cengage site. Example, the DVD's are only $28.50. :)
amyco
Do you have a link or phone number, or is the publisher's number easily found on the website? Thanks so much for the info, my mind is now made up. :)
melmichigan
Do you have a link or phone number, or is the publisher's number easily found on the website? Thanks so much for the info, my mind is now made up. :) I called customer service at the numbers listed on www.hmhco.com. The only thing to keep in mind is that smaller orders are flat shipping rates, so I saved some in shipping by buying my materials together. I was thrilled to be able to get all new materials at that price. I'm hoping my DD does well with Dana Mosley and already printed and priced all the elementary and intermediate algebra purchase informatiion so I can start saving up.
