Pam "SFSOM" in TN
And they called me today and said that they will accept her "case." LOL (They do a case by case eval to see if they can provide appropriate services or screening, or if the situation doesn't look like it warrants their particular attention or if it's too extensive for them to work with, such as every day work since they are only open two days a week.) After begging for language processing evaluation in four different school districts in four different states, realizing something was REALLY wrong in 5th grade when I started teaching her, getting her tested at Towson University and at Johns Hopkins and referred back to yet another school district that didn't provide services unless the student could show that the disability was holding them back below grade level, then ALMOST getting care but moving just before our number came up at Johns Hopkins once again, we're finally there. After years of hearing, "I'm really surprised you're even asking, Mrs. B. A. is a highly gifted child, and I can't see how she would need evaluating." (Um, have you heard her read aloud recently? Do you realize she can't recall four digits forward? Do you realize how much work her processing delays make for her on a daily basis?) I know it's not winning the lottery, but it feels like it. And Tricare will pay part of it. And they will reduce fees on the remaining part. I almost can't believe it.
