Chris in VA
We intended to do the 4 year rotation but ended up doing this: 9th--Ancients with Omnibus 1 10th--Med/Ren with Omnibus 2 11th--20th Cent with highly-tweaked Sonlight 300 12th--Early Mod w/Spielvogel and lit (GB's), and .5 credit of Am Gov't We always tied lit to history, but for the first semester of Sr year, we did Am Gov't and a study of poetry and short stories, doing Early Mod in the second semester. Storm Bay
For my eldest: World History 1, US History 1, US History 2, World History 2. She talks about going to ps for a couple of years, so we are doing that just in case she actually does. She refuses to go before doing Biology because she's tired of reading evolutionary materials (I expose my dc to moreo than one POV even though we have one) and we didn't do it her Freshman year. For my youngest, I plan to start high school history early (so it won't all show on the transcript) so that she can do a full cycle of SWB history books as well as 2 US history courses. This may change if she goes to an agriculgural high school (she wants to, and if she meets my goals, we'll apply and see if she gets in. Not my first choice, but I am getting stressed with the all the arguing that my strong willed dc have gotten into during this time of raging horrormones). For my ds, I'm not yet sure, but I highly doubt I'll send him to ps ever. He's very bright & very sensitive, and ps is not a healthy place for sensitive boys in my experience. Really, I wanted to homeschool them all through high school, but I strongly believe that they need to gradually have more say in what they do. How much say I give them depends on their age, how they are doing their schoolwork and what moral & ethical standards they live by.
Kareni
We came to homeschooling late. My daughter finished up a three year sweep through world history in 9th grade. Her interests also led her to emphasize foreign languages at the expense of history; there were only so many hours in a day! Her high school record looked like this: 9th: World History from 1700 to 2000 (at home) 10th: AP US History (out of the home class) 11th: AP Comparative Politics and Government (out of the home class) I'm not sure if you'd classify it as social studies, but she also did 12th: Art History (quarter long class at the community college) Regards, Kareni Edited August 17, 2010 by Kareni
Jean in Wisc
9th World History 10th American History 11th American Govt/Economics (.5 each) 12th Geography/ World Views, Philosophy, and Ethics (.5 each) I save Geography for 12th because it is an easy credit and that last year of school is so busy applying to colleges and going after scholarships. FWIW. Jean
SkateLeft
9th - World History (already completed) 10th - US History (this year) 11th - World Geography (possibly AP Human Geography) 12th - Government & Economics (possibly AP Government & Politics, and a semester of economics) This is based on the colleges that she's considering.
