Holly IN
My sophmore is sick of TOG gov't. He wants to stop doing TOG gov't but keep the rest. He looked at Notgrass Government and told me he wants to do that program. He wants to get the Government course over with so he can concentrate on other areas of Government. Can you tell me if you liked or disliked Notgrass and why? A little background: He went to Teen Pact for the last 3 years. He reads Glenn Beck's books and watches his show. He is looking at politics for his career. He understands gov't very well and has part of the consitution memorized. Also understands it very well. (please no tomatoes! This is not the point....just giving a bit of a background on my son) Thanks!! Holly
1Togo
I don't know about Notgrass, but your son might enjoy the Uncle Eric series. The books (11 total) are easy reading, but the corresponding guides are chock full of challenging and thought-provoking projects. MommyThrice
I haven't used this yet, but I love Notgrass history. Their American History course covers quite a bit of government - history, important court cases, etc... Your son sounds like mine. I'm seriously considering giving him a govt credit based on his experiences. He's helped me work elections, worked on several campaigns, lobbied our state legislature, delved deep into government through years of debate, and now he's studying the constitution and court cases in moot court and mock trial. I do think you need some unbiased, just-the-facts knowledge/experience to award a credit. Edited August 12, 2010 by MommyThrice spelling! Donna A.
Have you looked at Wallbuilders? I just noticed they even have a Glenn Beck "store" on their website. http://www.wallbuilders.com/ I haven't seen TOG's government course and don't know what it includes, but you might also look at the different resources MFW has scheduled in their year 3: http://www.mfwbooks.com/highschool-us1.html I looked at samples of that "Under God" book and thought it looked pretty good, from what I could see of it online: http://www.mcguffeyreaders.com/undergod.htm Oh, and I haven't seen the Notgrass government course, so I can't respond to that. Lolly
My dc used Notgrass for Government a few years ago. It was very easy to use and covered everything quite well. It would be quite easy for him to read the sections and do the work on his own at his own pace.
Denise in PA
I personally have not taught government from Notgrass, but would consider the following two books: A Familiar Exposition of The Constitution of the United Statesby Joseph Story and The Making of America: The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution by Cleon Skousen. Julie
My son just started it, so far so good. I really like the source book which has them reading the acutal documents. I have the American History as well, it looks great, but not planning on starting that until next year.
