Nan in Mass
My son used Conceptual Physics this year for 7th along with my 11th grader and it was fantastic for him (except for the spots where a simplification actually made the concept more complicated - always a problem with this child, who sees the implications of things well). The older one is doing CC chem next year, and I need a science for 8th grade for the younger one. I don't want to do bio because we are waiting for 9th and doing natural history instead. I think he'll get more out of natural history if he's had some chem. What is Conceptual Chemistry like? Is it as good as Conceptual Physics? -Nan
Bev in B'ville
It has all of the disciplines (physics, chemistry, life, and earth/space) in separate sections, so you could pick and choose what you want to do. My son wanted to do the earth/space first and I'm using Cyber Ed as a supplement. So far it's going well. I purchased the optional worksheets to go with it and he does the vocabulary, m/c questions and two discussion questiones per chapter right now. (He'll be doing more as we work through the book, I just didn't want to overwhelm him with this right off the bat.) He'll be completing the rest of the book in the coming year. It's well written and it's for the 8th grade/9th grade level. This may not be what you're looking for, but if you just wanted to do the chemistry section and supplement that, you'd get a year's study out of it. Just my $.
Ruth in Canada
I'm planning to use Conceptual Chemistry with my grade 7 son while dd (grade 10) does chemistry. I borrowed it through the ILL to check it out. Looked good to me. I used Conceptual Physics w/ dd when she was in grade 8 and we had a great year w/ it. She'll loop back through physics in high school, this time with more math.
