TravelingChris
I am completely befuddled by this textbook. There are ten units but if I divide it equally, that means only about 3.5 weeks per unit. But these units seem huge. Has anyone used this book who could help me? I know some used this because I remember people discussing this on the old board. Any help? EKS
We will be using the PH 2010 American literature book next year. It has six units, but we will only do five, getting us to 1970. And there is a lot of stuff we will skip, like all of the writing instruction. Essentially, we will do the preliminary material for each unit, then the Before You Read, the selection, the Critical Reading, and the After You Read. We will also discuss the select using the questions in the margins. I will give a test at the end of each unit using the publisher's test bank. Because I didn't think the book had enough in the way of whole works, my son will also be reading 8 or so and writing essays on them. I hope this helps. The book is huge and includes a ton of stuff that I finally decided was unnecessary for our purposes. If we were using it as a stand alone English book, I would do things differently. Kareni
There is some discussion here by Anna: Anyone use Prentice Hall Literature in high school? Regards, Kareni
gingersmom
I was just looking at University of Nebraska high school and they use the book for their 9th-10th grade English classes. You might want to see if they have anything online you can peek at.
