Michelle in AL
I'm planning an SAT essay writing class and came across this website which looks great for how to write the SAT/ACT essay. http://www.alanlawrencesitomer.com/resources/freesatessayprep/before-the-test/the-importance-of-being-prepared-to-succeed/ Use the links on the right to go through all the prep. TravelingChris
Just a warning. THe ACT essay is very different from the SAT essay and is graded differently. Don't use this for ACT essay prep.
Michelle in AL
Ohh, thanks Chris. I'm off to hunt for the ACT writing prep instruuctions now. Can you tell us how they differ?
TravelingChris
Yes, the ACT question has a very specific topic. IT is a practical topic like should high schools adopt a later start time or should schools require uniforms. You have more time to write a response. THe response should have on the one hand, on the other hand type of argument. You get graded down for not having this juxtaposition in the essay. You don't need to be remembering any examples or literary references. The SAT essay prompt is purposefully vague. The topics are much more philosophical. Taking one side of an argument and following it is considered fine. Literary references and actual examples should be used. Hope this helps. You can go to each test's website and see sample prompts and sample graded answers to see what each wants.
