My son has answered the call to ministry and is considering being a missionary. Do you know where one can serve as a missionary for

the "gap" year?

You can also try short term missions with Youth For Christ or maybe even Campus Crusade for Christ--not sure on that one, it may only be college aged.

Our church is pretty big into missions and often takes groups on mission trips to help some of the missionaries we support. If your church supports any missionaries, maybe he could do something with one of them for a year?

I spent over six years working with YWAM in my late teens/early 20s, and I loved it! A DTS would be a great gap year project!!! And there is a whole world out there filled with DTSs. Pick a country, there is probably one there.

I 2nd YWAM. If you know a missionary be sure they "want" teens to work. My aunt and Uncle are in Uganda and they have decided to only accept 21 yrs old and up. My oldest is soon to be 14 and has already decided on a year of missions after graduation. She didn't even know they had a name for it and asked if it was possible.

My Father's World will soon be doing missions training, too. They have 300 acres of property in rural Missouri that they're building with cabins and equipment for this very purpose. I know several graduates that take a gap year at Word of Life. It's a Bible college and with lots of evangelism. The kids go out every weekend on evangelism actities.

My son worked with Teen Missions, an organization I highly recommend. He went on a summer missions trip, but I know they have a Bible school and lots of really solid mission work going on all over the world.

 

And then a third on YWAM.

My dd went on a week-long mission to Haiti this summer, and was offered a month-long internship for next summer, which I think she plans to do. She is also considering long term mission work, and will follow up a month in Haiti with a DTS with YWAM the following year. She'd like to go to India. Praying for your son's calling, and opportunities God will open in his life.

This isn't on the field but you might want to look at Insight, a program provided through the US Center for World Mission. I would also encourage you to contact missionaries you know or your church supports to see what they might suggest.
